About the Job:
The Procurement department is looking for a Procurement Coordinator with a sharp eye for detail and a curiosity for how information, processes, and people connect to support procurement across SAN. This role will coordinate procurement records and documentation, support contract and document workflows, organize and analyze data, develop reporting, and work with internal departments and external partners to research questions and keep information moving accurately.
As part of the Authority’s career pathway program, School 2 SAN, this opportunity is designed as an early-career opportunity to learn public-sector procurement from the ground up. The ideal candidate will be responsible, organized, comfortable working independently, and eager to learn new systems and turn information into something useful. As their knowledge grows, they'll have opportunities to become a go-to resource for reporting and contribute to special projects that use data and technology to improve processes, strengthen audit readiness, and solve real operational challenges.
This role comes with a pretty unique view of how an airport works. Think about everything it takes to keep an airport running—from technology and equipment to professional services, construction support, and everyday supplies. Somewhere along the way, Procurement helped make it happen.
For someone starting their career, that means exposure to teams and work they may not even know exist yet, while building skills in data, contracts, systems, and process improvement. For someone curious about a career in public service, it's a front-row seat to how an airport works—and a chance to see where their strengths and interests could take flight.
What is School 2 SAN? The School 2 SAN program provides entry-level opportunities for individuals with limited or no prior work experience. Our goal is to help students and recent graduates build their knowledge, skills, and confidence on the job, while gaining exposure to the wide range of careers available in aviation, public service, and infrastructure. You are eligible if you meet the minimum education requirements of the position. Individuals hired through this pathway begin at a lower salary and are automatically moved to the organization’s benchmarked series hiring salary once the minimum years of experience have been met. No prior work experience required—you’ll gain that here!
What You’ll Do:
- Coordinate Contracts: Support contract documentation, routing, approvals, tracking, and other administrative processes from start to finish.
- Own the Details: Organize and maintain accurate procurement records, forms, files, logs, and documentation using SharePoint and other systems.
- Turn Data into Insights: Track and analyze procurement data, create reports, monitor key information, and identify discrepancies or trends that need attention.
- Connect the Dots: Work with departments, vendors, contractors, and team members to research questions, gather information, and keep processes moving.
- Improve How We Work: Help identify better ways to organize information, use technology, strengthen audit readiness, and improve procurement processes through special projects.
The Skills You Need:
- Attention to Detail — Maintains accurate information, catches discrepancies, follows through on commitments, and keeps work organized.
- Integrity — Acts honestly, handles information responsibly, follows policies and procedures, and raises concerns when something is unclear or inconsistent.
- Critical Thinking — Reviews information, asks thoughtful questions, identifies what may be missing, and works through problems to find practical solutions.
- Learning Agility — Learns new processes, systems, policies, and requirements and applies what they learn to their work.
- Communication — Shares information clearly and professionally, asks questions when clarification is needed, and adapts communication to different audiences.
- Relationship Building — Builds trust through reliability, responsiveness, and respectful collaboration with people across different roles and departments.
- Process Improvement — Looks for patterns and opportunities to make processes, information, or systems more organized, useful, and efficient.
About the Team:
Join a collaborative Procurement team that works across strategic sourcing, contract administration, warehouse operations, supplier engagement, and procurement innovation to support SAN and departments throughout the Airport Authority. The team is nationally recognized for its commitment to excellence and continuous improvement, earning the prestigious Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award for 17 consecutive years through its focus on best practices, transparency, and outstanding customer service.

- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in acquisitions, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field.
- This position is part of our School 2 SAN program, which supports early-career professionals in gaining hands-on experience in public service. Candidates may qualify with a relevant degree even if they have not yet met the minimum years of experience.
**Don’t meet every requirement? That’s okay. At San Diego International Airport, we value your unique experience and your willingness to learn. Some roles require specific qualifications or degrees, but others don’t—and we're always open to individuals committed to growth and excellence. If this sounds like you, we encourage you to apply.
