The Student Assistant for the Transdisciplinary Design (TD) MFA program will provide critical support to both the program’s leadership and the Design Strategies operations team, ensuring the effective management of the TD Studio and Cave Space. Responsibilities include providing light IT and AV support, coordinating and communicating event logistics, managing the TD Studio space, and serving as a liaison among students, faculty, and administrative partners. The role also involves designing marketing and event materials, managing equipment and tracking orders, and supporting day-to-day studio operations to foster a collaborative and well-functioning environment. Successful candidates will bring strong organizational skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to move ideas into action, along with excellent communication abilities across multiple levels of the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Performing some AV and light IT
Providing general administrative support to the Program Director and Program Administrator
In collaboration with the Program Director and Program Administrator, coordinate multiple events throughout the academic year, including communication and logistics
Design marketing materials and event-related materials
Coordinate with the Program Administrator to order equipment and supplies for TD Studio and Cave Space
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled as a student at The New School
Strong organizational and time-management skills and the capacity to think strategically and to effectively move ideas forward into implementation
Ability to communicate effectively on multiple levels across the organization
Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive)
Familiarity with design software (Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, etc.) preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Interest in urbanism, design justice, community-based work, or sustainability
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
WORK MODE
On-Campus Position - Employees in this position are expected to work on campus during regularly scheduled work hours because the work cannot be performed remotely without being infeasible or not in the best interest of the organization. #LI-DNI
Work hours are not fixed and may vary from week to week based on program needs. Student Assistants will support events taking place throughout the semester and should have some flexibility in their availability to accommodate scheduled program events.
Hourly Rate: $18 per hour
