Data Center Services (DCS) is a shared service organization within Enterprise Information Services (EIS.) The DCS team maintains and operates a state-of-the-art Data Center, providing a highly secure environment with redundant infrastructure for high availability and efficiency.  The services we provide include network connectivity (WAN, LAN, and Wireless), server hosting (mainframe, iSeries, AIX, Linux, and Windows), email services, Data Center colocation and data backup services.

What You’ll Do

As a Linux Server Engineer (ISS7), you will provide technical expertise and daily operational support for Data Center Services. Your work will focus on installation, configuration, maintenance, and security of Linux servers. You’ll deliver customer assistance for Linux servers, including diagnosing system issues and responding to service interruptions. You will perform operational maintenance tasks such as patching, evaluating updates, and managing system resources and will use automation tools and platforms to streamline processes, manage standards, and deploy infrastructure and configurations as code. Your work directly impacts the reliability and security of critical IT services supporting more than 150 state agencies, boards, and commissions.

Please be aware: This team is also currently recruiting a Senior Linux Server Engineer ISS8 on REQ-205835. We encourage interested candidates to review and apply for both positions, as applicable to their experience, skills and interest. Interviews for the ISS8 position are tentatively scheduled for the week of September 29. Following that process, we will interview ISS7 candidates the week of October 12.

This Is What You Need to Qualify

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Six (6) years of information systems experience in: Linux systems-based administration; OR

  • An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field; AND four (4) years of information systems experience in: Linux systems-based administration ; OR

  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field AND two (2) years of information systems experience in: Linux systems-based administration; OR

  • Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field may substitute for all of the above.

The ideal candidate will possess the following desired skills and attributes:

  • Experience in managing and maintaining database technologies on Linux in an enterprise environment.

  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining Linux servers and virtual environments,  supporting and maintaining a standardized Linux environment in an enterprise setting.

  • Experience with Windows and Linux Server Operating Systems and HyperV or VMware.

  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure, Amazon Web Services, and Google Cloud Platform.

  • Skill with GitHub and Terraform, or other industry standard code-repository and automation tools.

  • Demonstrated skill and ability to collaborate with teammates and build positive business relationships with superiors, subordinates, peers, and others outside of their organization.

  • Proven ability and skill to clearly explain complex/technical concepts in terms that are understandable for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Skilled in current Data Center technologies, system and process development methods, and the use of computing resources at all levels.

  • The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%.Review the Classification and Compensation page for more details on the classification, or you may visit our website for information on the job offer process following pay equity.
