Job Summary:
The IT Operations Team Lead leads the IT Operations team responsible for the day-to-day monitoring, administration, and support of TEGNA’s on-premises and cloud technology platforms and the end user community that depends on them. The Team Lead provides technical direction and workload coordination across the team, owning the operational health of core enterprise systems — endpoint, identity, Microsoft 365, and ITSM — while driving automation and continuous process improvement. The position of IT Operations Team Lead works effectively with other IT teams, corporate departments, vendors, business units, consultants, and service providers to ensure smooth operation of TEGNA’s IT platforms and applications and ensures appropriate and timely communication of information and events between the team and the people we support.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the Operations team day to day — provide technical direction, prioritize daily tasks and project work, ensure work is appropriately staffed and on time, and serve as the escalation point for the team. – 25%
• Own the patching, uptime, and operational health of TEGNA’s core enterprise and broadcast platforms such as Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, Tanium, Axonius, identity and access, and Microsoft 365.– 25%
• Architect and implement toolsets and build workflows to drive automation using AI, PowerShell, Python, Microsoft Graph, and Power Automate. – 15%
• Resolve escalated problems and document resolutions in ServiceNow, maintaining ITIL-aligned incident, request, and knowledge management practices. – 15%
• Maintain quality service by enforcing quality and customer service standards; analyzing and resolving service problems; identifying trends and recommending system improvements. – 10%
• Manage and execute special projects. – 5%
• Develop the team by onboarding, training, and mentoring team members, supporting hiring, and creating personal growth opportunities. – 5%
• React to changes positively, handle other essential tasks as assigned, and productively challenge the status quo as appropriate.
Requirements:
• College degree, relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft, Okta, ITIL), or equivalent experience.
• Three or more years leading technical or operational teams, or wide-scale enterprise projects; direct people-leadership experience strongly preferred.
• Five or more years of hands-on experience administering enterprise identity and endpoint platforms, including Okta (SSO/SAML/SCIM), Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, and device management/inventory tooling such as Tanium and Axonius.
• Demonstrated experience administering Microsoft 365 in a hybrid environment — Exchange Online, Teams, and SharePoint — including licensing and mailbox/resource management.
• Demonstrated experience with AI, automation, and scripting including PowerShell, Python, Microsoft Graph, and workflow platforms such as Power Automate.
• Demonstrated knowledge of service desk concepts and toolsets including ITIL, knowledge management, and ServiceNow.
• Experience with enterprise monitoring and alerting toolsets (e.g., OpsRamp, PagerDuty) and cloud platforms (Azure and/or AWS) is a plus.
• Experience supporting broadcast workflow systems and/or streaming infrastructure is a plus.
• Ability to prioritize multiple complex tasks/projects and follow through to completion independently or as part of a team.
• As a member of a service organization, ability to effectively communicate technical topics to various levels of internal customers and outside business partners.
• Ability to think analytically and solve problems creatively.
