We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Mid Level IT Administrator to join our technical operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the implementation, administration, security, maintenance and troubleshooting of a diverse IT environment comprising cloud services, cybersecurity platforms, firewalls, servers, virtualization infrastructure, access control systems, CCTV platforms, wireless networks and Linux servers.
This role requires a strong technical foundation, a security-first mindset, excellent troubleshooting ability and the capacity to manage multiple systems and projects simultaneously. The ideal candidate will have a proven record in enterprise IT administration and will be comfortable working independently while collaborating with internal teams and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support the company’s IT infrastructure across Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Azure/Entra ID and Windows Server environments.
- Administer and maintain user access, identities, security policies, MFA and permissions.
- Manage and troubleshoot email security and continuity solutions, including Mimecast.
- Configure, maintain and support FortiGate firewalls, VPNs and network security.
- Support virtual server infrastructure, including VMware environments and virtual machines.
- Manage and maintain wireless networks, including Ubiquiti UniFi infrastructure.
- Support and troubleshoot Linux and Windows Server environments.
- Maintain and support CCTV and biometric access-control systems.
- Provide Level 2 and Level 3 technical support, resolving complex infrastructure and security-related incidents.
- Perform system health checks, preventative maintenance, backups, security reviews and disaster recovery testing.
- Contribute to infrastructure upgrades, migrations, automation and other IT projects.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation and identify opportunities to improve and standardise IT systems.
Requirements
Required Experience and Technical Competencies
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in IT administration, systems engineering, or a similar infrastructure role.
- Proven hands-on experience managing enterprise IT environments.
- Demonstrable experience with Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, FortiGate, Windows Server, Active Directory, Mimecast, VMware vSphere, UniFi and Linux administration.
- Strong networking knowledge, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, NAT, firewalls and VPN technologies.
- Working knowledge of cybersecurity principles, identity protection, least privilege, logging, incident investigation, vulnerability reduction and secure configuration management.
- Ability to diagnose complex, cross-platform issues methodically and independently.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a matric certificate (Grade 12).
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field is advantageous but not essential. Equivalent practical experience and relevant industry certifications will be considered.
Preferred Certifications
- Fortinet FCP / FCSS or equivalent Fortinet certification
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
- CompTIA Security+ and/or Network+
- Linux Professional Institute (LPI) certification
- Relevant Google Workspace administration certification
