The Integrated Plan Delivery team works within Integrated System Planning to create new tools and processes to plan across all four of Xcel’s commodities (electrical distribution, electrical transmission, energy supply, and natural gas networks). The team also performs economic transmission analysis. One intern will focus on economic transmission analysis, the other will contribute to the broader mandate of the team. The team is split between Minnesota and Colorado. 

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Participate in intern development program

• Learn about Xcel’s planning process

• Collect and prepare data for studies

• Perform studies, as appropriate

• Write study and assumptions reports, as appropriate

This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements:

• Current student, Junior or higher

• Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Economics, or Engineering Physics

• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Electrical Engineering major

• Had taken courses in circuits or power system introductory courses

• Any elective coursework in engineering economics or energy policy

• Curiosity and creativity
