In pursuit of this mission, we are hiring an a Hall Monitor. This individual will help maintain a safe, orderly, and welcoming school environment by supervising students in hallways and other common areas before, during, and after the school day. This position promotes positive student behavior, supports school expectations, and assists administrators in maintaining a secure learning environment where students can focus on academic success.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree or relevant college coursework preferred.
Experience
- Experience working with children or adolescents preferred.
- Experience in school security, youth services, customer service, or community engagement is desirable.
Job Responsibilities
Essential Duties
- Monitor hallways, entrances, cafeterias, restrooms, and other common areas to maintain a safe, orderly, and secure school environment.
- Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, class transitions, lunch periods, and other assigned times, ensuring students are in authorized locations.
- Promote positive student behavior by reinforcing school expectations, building positive relationships, and redirecting inappropriate behavior.
- Respond to minor student conflicts using appropriate intervention strategies and report serious behavioral, safety, or security concerns to school administration.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to de-escalate conflict using effective communication and problem-solving techniques.
- Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment during stressful situations.
- Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, security staff, and other employees.
- Knowledge of school safety practices and student supervision techniques.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
Must be able to stand, walk, and move quickly between indoor and outdoor settings for extended periods.
Regularly required to bend, kneel, crouch, and assist with physical transfers or interventions involving students.
Must be able to lift, push, or carry up to 50 pounds as needed.
Frequent verbal communication is required to support students, coordinate with staff, and manage emergent situations.
Occasional use of computers, radios, and other communication or documentation tools.
May be exposed to noise, weather conditions, and other elements associated with a school environment.
