Position Description: The Finance Officer is responsible for carrying out finance related tasks as assigned by the Finance Coordinator, contributing and ensuring smooth running of the finance department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Preparation and review of financial and other documents for payment and processing to ensure the completeness, accuracy, and validity of financial data, including accounting classifications and computations.
- Preparation and maintenance of accurate payroll records in accordance with Malawi Government rules and regulations
- Preparation of monthly advance requests and submitting for review on time.
- Preparation of monthly liquidation reports, and quarterly accruals reports, ensuring office contributions are submitted in a timely manner
- Ensure that all the financial transactions are booked in the Sun Accounting System.
- Preparation of all other monthly, quarterly and annual reports related to program finances required by donors and program management within set deadlines
- Assisting program management in undertaking financial planning activities such as preparing budgets and budget revision requests
- Ensuring BCM/Malawi financial and accounting procedures and other best practices are adhered to while carrying out assigned work
- Assisting with monitoring of program Bank accounts and transactions and taking corrective action as required and recommended by auditors, senior finance officer, and top management if necessary
- Facilitating fund transfers to the field offices accounts upon receipt of a spending projection for the month
- Facilitate all internal and external audits and other donor requests.
- Handle other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Accounting Diploma from a recognized institution or any relevant qualification, BA degree holder in accounting will be preferred.
- Minimum of two years’ experience with a donor funded organization
- Experience with US Government agencies funded projects is a plus
Skills required:
- Knowledge of advance request and liquidation processes, and familiarity with US Government financial regulations
- Experience working with Microsoft Excel and Sun Accounting System
- Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and juggle an uneven workload
