The Field Engineer supports the Project Manager and Project Superintendent with daily jobsite functions primarily related to field management including, subcontractor coordination, quality control, Request for Information (RFI) and submittal processing, daily reports, and monitoring project safety requirements. They may also be asked to manage composite cleanup crews and monitor small portions of the work.

What You Will Do:

  • Assist with jobsite supervision under guidance of the Project Superintendent, coordinate daily activities with trade contractors, produce and organize project documentation including daily logs, inspection reports, field observation reports, punch-lists, and other related compliance documentation.

  • Assist with development and management of the site-specific quality control plan and related tasks to ensure the compliance of construction projects.

  • Assist with development and daily management of the site-specific safety program which includes modeling safety awareness and planning at all times, and observing safety practices and communicates concerns to the Project Superintendent or Project Manager.

  • Accurately summarize important discussions, questions, and decisions raised during regular project team meetings, owner meetings, and weekly subcontractor meetings.

  • Assist the Project Superintendent in answering technical questions from trade contractors to clarify the construction contract requirements, including properly documenting questions and administering the RFI process to ensure that information is delivered in a timely manner to all parties involved.

  • Review work in progress for quantities, quality, and accuracy.

  • Manage and develop a Project Needs Summary and coordinate deliveries as needed.

  • Review and understand construction plans, standards, and specifications. Assume responsibility for updating contract documents to reflect all approved changes and ensure trade contractors are provided with updates.

  • Inspect construction to assure compliance with contract documents, contract drawings, and specifications.

  • Review as-built drawings provided by trade contractors to verify that as-built conditions have been properly marked on the plans in a timely manner, ensure these records are maintained by all trade contractors and coordinate transmitting of information designer as required for production of final as-built set.

  • Observe and document all field activity for conformance with project requirements.

  • Review plans and specifications of projects to gain familiarity with the project.

  • Perform field observation and document construction activities as directed via laptop, tablet, cell phone and field notebook, or sketchpad.

  • Comply with all applicable safety and environmental requirements, conduct work in a safe manner by following security and safety policies and procedures and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Verify the quality of workmanship, quality of materials used, and compliance with the plans, specifications, estimates, and applicable codes and regulations.

  • Ability to identify deficiencies and deviations from the plans.

  • Assist Project Superintendent with preparation of legible written field notes and daily reports detailing the status of work, including confirmation of work completed and jobsite conditions, daily reporting of measurements, calculations, and computation of quantities as well as written narratives of work completed.

  • Record the results of inspections and verify the accuracy of the data with proper field checks recorded. Utilize current technology to expedite the punch list process with a punch list completion goal of 30 days after substantial completion.

  • Research maps, physical evidence, project specific details, and other records to obtain data needed for field work.

  • Maintain exceptional internal and external client relations.


The majority of work is completed outside at the construction site and in an office trailer where they will monitor the project and make daily decisions about construction activities. This position is often exposed to sounds and loud noises, such as construction equipment. The job requires wearing protective equipment when on the construction site (hardhats, safety glasses, and high visibility clothing). Temperatures and conditions may vary depending on the weather and seasons.



Expected Hours of Work
Full time position. Extended hours and weekends may apply.


Travel
Travel to and from the construction site is required; majority of the work will be done at the site. Most of the travel will be local, but some long-distance and overnight travel may be required depending on the project.

What You Will Bring to the Team:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related job field.

  • Minimum two (2) years of applicable experience in the construction industry.

  • -or- Equivalent combination of the above education, training, and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:
Associate’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related job field.


Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of construction instruments/tools.

  • Ability to read, understand and interpret spec books, blueprints, maps.

  • Able to work individually or as a team.

  • Ability to learn new field technologies.

  • Ability to focus on various tasks throughout the day and change focus with short notice.

  • Computer knowledgeable and able to quickly learn new software.

  • Excellent concentration and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Exceptional written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams including technical and non-technical personnel.

  • Resourceful, action-oriented, creative, and analytical thinker.

  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under tight deadlines as well as balance multiple projects by prioritizing effectively.

  • Strong planning, organization, preparation, and execution capabilities.

  • Open to new ideas, innovation, and change.

  • Strong problem solving/analytical skills.

  • Ability to adapt to unforeseen events while in urban and rural environments.

  • Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft 365 including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
