This opportunity is being recruited by The Nuclear Company on behalf of Duke Energy Lark Maintenance. While most of our services opportunities support outage and field work, this position is a direct-hire opportunity with one of our trusted industry partners.
If selected, you will be hired directly as a full-time, permanent employee of Duke Energy Lark Maintenance. They are responsible for compensation, benefits, payroll, work schedules, supervision, onboarding, workplace policies, and all other terms and conditions of employment.

About the Role
The Blasting / Coating Technician is responsible for the safe preparation, cleaning, and coating of metal surfaces and components supporting power generation equipment and infrastructure. This role performs abrasive blasting, surface preparation, industrial coating application, and quality inspections to ensure components meet project specifications, industry standards, and customer requirements. The ideal candidate possesses a strong safety mindset, attention to detail, and experience working in industrial maintenance, fabrication, or power generation environments.
This is a full-time, onsite position located at Duke Energy’s Lark Maintenance facility in Mt. Holly, NC, supporting plant operations through TNC Energy Services. The ideal candidate will live/commute to the location daily as relocation is not offered for this position, at this time.
Responsibilities
- Perform abrasive blasting operations to remove corrosion, coatings, scale, and contaminants from metal surfaces
- Prepare surfaces for coating applications in accordance with project specifications and industry standards
- Apply industrial coatings, epoxies, urethanes, primers, and specialty protective coatings using spray, brush, and roller methods
- Inspect surface preparation and coating applications for compliance with quality requirements
- Measure and document coating thickness using dry film thickness gauges and other inspection equipment
- Mix, handle, and store blasting media, paints, coatings, and related materials in accordance with manufacturer requirements
- Operate and maintain blasting equipment, paint spray systems, compressors, ventilation systems, and associated tooling
- Read and interpret work instructions, technical drawings, coating specifications, and safety procedures
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of blasting and coating equipment
- Maintain work areas, containment systems, and housekeeping standards
- Safely operate forklifts, man lifts, pressure washers, water jets, and other support equipment
- Inspect and utilize overhead cranes and rigging equipment for handling large components
- Support outage, maintenance, and repair activities as required
- Follow all safety, environmental, and quality requirements while working in industrial and power generation environments
Requirements
- Proven experience in abrasive blasting, industrial painting, or protective coatings applications
- Knowledge of surface preparation standards and coating application techniques
- Experience operating blasting and coating equipment in industrial environments
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions
- Experience using coating inspection and measurement equipment
- Forklift, aerial lift, rigging, and crane qualification (or ability to obtain)
- Microsoft Office proficiency
- Strong safety mindset and positive attitude
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including respirators
- Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated work areas, and industrial environments
- Powersafe Training (or ability to complete)
Nice to Have
- AMPP (formerly NACE/SSPC) Coating Applicator or related certification
- Experience supporting power generation, nuclear, utility, or heavy industrial facilities
- Experience with containment systems and environmental compliance requirements
- Knowledge of coating inspection standards and quality documentation requirements
Estimated Starting Salary Range
The estimated starting pay rate for this role is approximately $28.00 hourly less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
