Your New role

As an Associate Vice President you are a developing full-stack software engineer who contributes to the design, build, test and support of digital products at NAB. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, you deliver well-tested frontend and backend changes across NAB's internal engineering platforms – building non-customer-facing experiences as NAB-X (NABX) miniapps and the supporting services that power them as NABserv microservices.

Your purpose is to translate clearly scoped user stories into production-quality code, learning and applying NAB's engineering standards, security requirements and ways of working. You take ownership of individual tasks end-to-end – frontend and backend – actively seek feedback and grow your technical capability while helping the team deliver reliable, secure and maintainable software.

What you'll bring:

Frontend:

Build and maintain mini apps using the approved web SDK and the Elevate component library, integrating with the NABX shell for navigation and shell-managed authentication.

Implement accessible, responsive UI that meets NAB design-system and accessibility standards.

Backend:

Develop backend services as server functions and microservices (Java / Spring Boot, built with Gradle).

Implement REST APIs following NAB's contract-first, OpenAPI and versioning standards, including validation, error handling and structured logging.

Quality & delivery:

Write and maintain automated tests (unit, component and integration) using tools such as JUnit, Mockito and WireMock, and frontend test frameworks.

Apply secure-by-design practices – mTLS service communication, secure handling of secrets/certificates, and adherence to NAB API security standards.

Participate in CI/CD: building, containerizing and deploying services through NAB pipelines.

Engage fully in agile ceremonies – refinement, planning, stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives.

Complete clearly scoped development tasks under guidance, raising blockers early and seeking review.

Help triage and fix defects and respond to production support items with support from senior engineers.

Actively learn NAB platforms, tooling and standards, and contribute to documentation.

Approximately 8-10 years' software engineering experience (including relevant internships, graduate programs or significant project work).

• Foundational, hands-on experience building full-stack web applications – a frontend framework (React or similar) and at least one backend language (Java strongly preferred; Node.js/TypeScript valued).
• Exposure to REST APIs, relational databases and version control (Git).
• Understanding of automated testing fundamentals and the software development lifecycle.
• Familiarity with cloud and container concepts (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) is desirable; NABX/NABserv exposure is a plus but not required – training and mentoring are provided.
