Why Hawk-Eye & Why VAR?

As a VAR Replay Operator, you will be at the heart of the action in the A-League, working within our Football department in Australia. Based at the A-League VAR Centre in Sydney, your role will be vital in delivering elite-level sports technology services through the setup and operation of our specialized Hawk-Eye SMART Replay systems. As you gain experience, you may also have the opportunity to work on-site at key sporting venues across Australia and New Zealand.

You will gain hands-on exposure to live broadcast workflows and sports technology. We will provide comprehensive technical training, full exposure to our systems, and ongoing support to set you up for success while encouraging your development and progression to help shape the future of our operations.

This is a casual opportunity and will be predominantly weekend based work with hours based around A-League match fixtures. You may be rostered to work weekdays from time to time as well.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on match-day schedules, your responsibilities will include:

• System Setup & Operations: Setting up and configuring Hawk-Eye SMART Replay technology at the VAR Centre or on-site stadium locations.

• Replay & Official Support: Operating system controls during live matches to rapidly provide match officials with optimal multi-angle video replays for crucial decision-making.

• System Checks & Diagnostics: Conducting rigorous pre-match system checks in accordance with standard operating procedures to guarantee operational readiness.

• Stakeholder Liaison: Communicating professionally with A-League officials, stadium/club personnel, and host broadcasting teams both on-site and remotely.

• Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Analysing software performance, troubleshooting technical issues, and maintaining hardware equipment, including identifying replacement parts when needed.

• Logistics Management: Organizing and coordinating equipment logistics for travel between stadium locations across Australia and New Zealand as required.

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise

Essentials:

• Right to Work: Must hold the legal right to live and work in Australia.

• Football & Rules Knowledge: A strong passion for sports with a comprehensive understanding of football, VAR protocols, and the Laws of the Game.

• Technical Foundation: Solid technical aptitude, ideally grounded in Broadcast, IT, or PC networking, with quick ability to master specialized software.

• Composure Under Pressure: Proven ability to maintain calm focus, problem-solving efficiency, and composure in a fast-paced, high-pressure live broadcast environment.

• Sharp Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to liaise effectively and professionally with high-profile clients, production staff, and match officials.

• Flexibility: High adaptability and commitment to working irregular hours, primarily focusing on weekends and evening match fixtures.

Desirables:

• Prior experience working with VT/replay technology, live event production, or broadcast systems.

• A background or formal training in Broadcast Technology, Information Technology, or Media Production.
