The Role
The Data Centre 24x7 Facilities Engineer role carries on-shift operational responsibility for facility activities across Datacom’s Data Centres in New Zealand and Australia. Working closely with the Operations Enablement Team, 24x7 Operations Managers, and Site Facility Managers, you'll coordinate facility incidents, maintenance activities, scheduled tasks, and onsite resources to ensure our critical environments continue to operate safely and reliably.
This role is based onsite at our Orbit Data Centre in Auckland and is not eligible for hybrid or remote working. The position operates on a 12-hour rotating shift pattern, including both day and night shifts, as part of a 24x7 operational environment.

Responsibilities
- Zero downtime across our Data Centre environments is a key deliverable of this role.
- Support and monitor critical Data Centre systems and environments including:
- Mechanical systems
- Electrical systems
- Fire systems
- Security systems
- Data Centre buildings and grounds
- Control and monitoring systems
- Data Centre communications cabling infrastructure
- Monitor Data Centre infrastructure control and monitoring tools for warnings and alarms.
- Manage facility incidents through to resolution using established procedures, MOPs, and escalation paths.
- Act as the primary on-shift escalation point for facility issues and incidents.
- Ensure all facility tasks are completed and updated within operational systems during your shift.
Major Incident Management
- Support onsite Operations and Facilities teams during major incidents.
- Coordinate and escalate major facility-related incidents.
- Ensure major incident documentation remains accurate and up to date.
- Participate in incident response testing and scenario planning activities.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Creating incident reports for facility-related events.
- Driving consistency in processes, MOPs, and facilities service delivery across all Data Centres.
- Monitoring and supervising maintenance contractors to ensure contracted services are delivered to the required standard.
- Undertaking ongoing training to develop a thorough understanding of Data Centre operations, risk management, and emergency response procedures.
- Maintaining the accuracy of Data Centre ACMS systems and associated documentation.
