Role purpose: To support a more efficient and insight-led underwriting control environment by analysing current controls, identifying process improvements and leveraging approved technology to reduce manual activity and deliver efficient and accurate outcomes. The role will also support regulatory returns such as ATIA and GAREAT and help the team during busy periods by reviewing controls and evidence.

  • Analyses current controls to identify inefficiencies, gaps, duplication and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provides practical insights and recommendations to stakeholders to support better control outcomes and ways of working.
  • Leverages approved technology to streamline manual tasks, improve reporting quality and prepare processes for future technology-enabled solutions.
  • Builds knowledge across underwriting controls and regulatory returns to provide flexible support to the team during peak periods.

Key responsibilities

Control analysis and improvement

  • Review current control processes, outputs and exception trends to identify root causes and improvement opportunities.
  • Prepare clear insight summaries for stakeholders, including process improvement ideas, automation opportunities and areas requiring clearer ownership or governance.
  • Work with Underwriters, Operations, Data Analytics, Technology and other stakeholders to improve control processes and reduce manual effort.

Technology-enabled improvement and future readiness

  • Use approved technology responsibly to support drafting, summarisation, comparison, trend identification and process documentation.
  • Help translate manual tasks into clear requirements for improved workflows, automation or future technology enabled solutions.
  • Support testing and validation of improved processes to ensure outputs remain accurate, explainable and appropriately controlled.

Controls and regulatory reporting support

  • Develop knowledge across the team’s underwriting controls and support control reviews, exception follow-up and evidence checks when required.
  • Support regulatory returns such as ATIA and GAREAT by assisting with preparation, validation, reconciliations, documentation and review activity.
  • Learn through direct involvement in control and regulatory reporting processes, including completing process steps where appropriate to build team resilience.
  • Provide flexible support during busy periods, including helping to review controls, evidence and regulatory reporting outputs.

Governance and stakeholder engagement

  • Maintain accurate records, documentation and audit-ready evidence for control outcomes and reporting.
  • Provide clear updates on control issues, process insights, automation opportunities, dependencies and risks.
  • Escalate recurring issues, data quality concerns or control weaknesses to the relevant manager or stakeholder.

About you

What you need to have

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify trends, issues and practical improvement opportunities.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to evidence work clearly for governance, audit and reporting purposes.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Interest in using approved technology to improve business processes and deliver efficient and accurate outcomes.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work well with stakeholders across the business.
  • A proactive mindset, with the confidence to use initiative while recognising when support or escalation is needed.

What we prefer you to have

  • Experience supporting process improvement, reporting, analytics, control activity or technology-enabled change.
  • Experience working with data, reconciliations, documentation or operational processes.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform, SharePoint, Lists, Power BI or similar tools would be beneficial.
  • Awareness of responsible technology use, including data quality, validation and human oversight.

For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of X to Y. Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including your specific experience and work location. 

In addition, you will be offered competitive target incentive compensation, with awards based on overall corporate and individual performance. On top of this, you will be eligible for a comprehensive and competitive benefits package which includes medical plans for you and your family, health and wellness programs, retirement plans, tuition reimbursement, paid vacation, and much more.
