Role
Octus is looking for a Staff Writer based in Pakistan to work with our APAC Core Credit team, which consists of experienced journalists, financial analysts and lawyers based across the Asia- Pacific. The Staff Writer will predominantly focus on writing up news articles from press releases and company announcements with a strong emphasis on speed, accuracy and clarity. A background in writing about business or financial news is essential.
The ideal candidate will have wire service, newsroom or similar experience, know or be able to efficiently learn our subject matter, have strong news judgment, and possess the ability to quickly create concise stories from complex information. Speed, accuracy and strong news judgment are critical. The candidate must be an excellent communicator, learn and adapt easily, and confidently work across different teams.
Responsibilities
- Write breaking news stories based on company announcements and third-party content
- Aggregate third-party content using smart news judgment, adding insights from and contributing to Octus’s extensive collection of databases
- Support a team of experienced journalists, financial analysts and lawyers
- Adopt Octus’s editorial standards, workflows, and processes in a timely manner
- Help monitor news articles, press releases, and other sources for key and topical developments
- Work in shifts, which will include morning, afternoon and/or night rotations, to help ensure full news coverage
- Ensure weekend announcements are written up prior to the start of each week
- Provide crossover support between regions when necessary in order to provide 24/7 coverage
Requirements
- Excellent written and spoken English skills
- Excellent writing skills, time management and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong news sense, with experience or an interest in financial news and markets
- Change mindset and willingness to adapt as content objectives evolve
- Preferably based in Islamabad.
