About the Role
The Developer Platform Team enables engineering teams to build, test, deploy, and operate software efficiently at scale. We build the shared engineering foundations that boost developer velocity, enhance reliability, and reduce operational friction across the organization.
As a Software Engineer II, you will deliver key platform improvements that make engineering journeys faster, more reliable, and easier to use. Your work will directly impact how services are built, tested, packaged, and released company-wide.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving developer journey problems at the intersection of the codebase, build systems, CI infrastructure, and shared engineering tooling. You will independently own well-scoped platform initiatives, write production-quality code, and collaborate with teams across engineering to turn recurring friction into durable, automated platform capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Improve Developer Velocity: Build and enhance internal systems to accelerate local development workflows, reduce CI wait times, minimize flaky test failures, and streamline service onboarding.
- Strengthen Shared Engineering Foundations: Contribute to the Scala, Bazel, CI, and shared platform ecosystems to maintain scalable build configurations, clear dependency management, and reusable code patterns across repositories.
- Reduce Engineering Toil: Identify repetitive, manual processes and replace them with automated, self-service platform capabilities, debugging tools, and CI visibility.
- Improve Reliability & Signal Quality: Enhance CI success rates, speed up failure diagnosis, and increase the resilience of shared engineering systems under scale.
- Apply AI-Assisted Engineering Practices: Leverage AI tools and agentic workflows thoughtfully to automate migrations, streamline testing, and establish guardrails for AI-assisted development.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Engineering, Infrastructure, SRE, Security, and Quality Engineering to drive adoption of paved paths and improve overall developer experience.
Qualifications & Core Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
- Independent Execution: Ability to independently deliver moderate-complexity engineering projects with sound judgment and high execution quality.
- Engineering Fundamentals: Strong software engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience working in production codebases.
- Tooling & CI/CD Focus: Experience improving developer workflows, build systems, CI/CD pipelines, or internal engineering tools.
- Problem Solving & Debugging: Proven capability to debug complex technical issues and deliver durable, long-term fixes.
- Collaboration & Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills with a track record of collaborative problem-solving across engineering teams.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience with Scala or the JVM ecosystem.
- Hands-on experience with Bazel, modern CI/CD infrastructure, Kubernetes, or GitOps workflows.
- Curiosity and familiarity with applying AI-assisted development tools or automated agentic workflows to developer tooling.
Note: We prioritize strong engineering fundamentals, adaptability, and the drive to create leverage for other engineers over familiarity with a specific stack.
Why Join This Team?
The systems built by the Developer Platform Team directly shape how engineering work gets done across the entire company. The improvements you make will compound daily across hundreds of developers, services, builds, and deployments—allowing your peers to spend less time fighting tooling and more time delivering value to customers.
