Software Dev Principal Engineer - Cloud-Native Microservices & Network Security
About the Role
SonicWall is a global leader in cybersecurity, offering firewalls, secure access solutions, and threat intelligence that protect millions of networks for enterprises, governments, and service providers worldwide. SonicWall’s portfolio includes next-generation firewalls (NGFW), centralized management, wireless network management, secure mobile access, cloud security, and endpoint security. All these solutions are coordinated and managed through SonicWall's Unified Management (UM) architecture.
We invite you to join our team in developing innovative network security management solutions for SonicWall's Network Security Manager (NSM), a centralized management and analytics platform within the SonicWall Unified Management (UM) ecosystem. In this role, you will help build secure and scalable software capabilities that integrate with SonicWall's Unified Management (UM) platform and Shared Services Platform (SSP) to meet the unique operational needs of enterprise customers, Managed Service Providers (MSPs), and Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) around the globe.
You will design and build cloud-native and on-premises microservices, RESTful APIs, real-time communication layers, and frontend components that power NSM's security policy management, device orchestration, and network visibility features. This role spans backend-first full-stack development and demands a security-first engineering mindset, strong Go proficiency, and the ability to leverage AI-assisted development tools responsibly and critically.
You will work as part of a globally distributed engineering team across India, USA, and other development centres, collaborating cross-functionally with engineers, QA, and product teams to deliver high-quality features in an agile, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
- Defining technical strategy/architecture direction.
- Mentoring and growing senior engineers, and driving engineering standards adoption
- Collaborate with AI coding tools - validating, testing, debugging, refining generated code, establishing coding standards and AI guardrails.
- Lead end-to-end system design — from requirements decomposition through to deployment topology, data modelling, and API contracts
- Collaborate with engineering managers and product leads on roadmap feasibility, effort estimation, and technical risk assessment
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance Go-based microservices for NSM's cloud and On-Prem deployments
- Build and evolve RESTful API endpoints serving enterprise customers at scale
- Implement and maintain certificate-based connection trust (mTLS) for secure service-to-service and client-to-service communication
- Adopt a secure software development framework and ensure that the software development process addresses the OWASP Top 10 risks from design to delivery.
- Instrument software services with structured logging, distributed tracing, and metrics using Open Telemetry, New Relic, and OpenSearch
- Contribute to both cloud-native (AWS/Kubernetes) and On-Prem microservice deployments, ensuring feature and security parity
Required Skills
