Senior Vice President, Preclinical Toxicology

Position 

The Senior Vice President, Toxicology (Safety Pharmacology) leads Nurix's nonclinical safety function and reports to the Chief Scientific Officer. This role sets toxicology and safety pharmacology strategy across the portfolio, from discovery through clinical development, and represents Toxicology to senior management, the Board, external partners, and regulatory authorities. 

The SVP operates across three dimensions: leading an internal team and managing the department's CRO relationships, budget, and study portfolio; setting strategic direction for nonclinical safety across programs and the portfolio; and executing with the scientific rigor and credibility to influence program-level decisions and Nurix's broader R&D direction. 

Responsibilities 

• Set toxicology and safety pharmacology strategy across the discovery, preclinical, and clinical portfolio, and make sure nonclinical safety plans align with the company's development priorities and risk tolerance. 

• Represent Toxicology on the Research & Early Discovery leadership team and other internal or collaboration leadership teams, acting as a key contributor to portfolio prioritization, program governance, and related decisions. 

• Lead and develop an internal Toxicology team, including hiring, mentoring, and setting priorities as workload and the portfolio evolve. 

• Direct the design and execution of preclinical pharmacology, pharmacokinetic, mammalian toxicology, and genetic toxicology IND-enabling studies (GLP and non-GLP), ensuring packages meet regulatory filing standards. 

• Manage the Toxicology department budget and resourcing, including decisions about what stays in-house versus what goes to CRO partners. 

• Select and oversee the CRO and external partner network, including contracting, risk management, and quality oversight of outsourced GLP and non-GLP studies. 

• Serve as the senior toxicology representative in interactions with FDA and other health authorities, including IND, CTA, NDA, BLA, and MAA submissions and agency meetings. 

• Communicate toxicology findings and risk assessments clearly to program teams, senior management, and the Board, translating nonclinical safety data into practical implications for decision-making. 

• Provide toxicology and safety input on business development activities, including due diligence on in-licensing or partnership opportunities. 

• Work cross-functionally with research, CMC and clinical teams to resolve nonclinical safety issues that develop across discovery and development programs, and assess the relevance of toxicological findings to human risk. 

• Represent Nurix Toxicology externally, including with key opinion leaders, industry groups, and regulatory forums. 

Required Qualifications 

• Ph.D., M.D., or D.V.M. in Toxicology, Pharmacology, or a related discipline. 

• Minimum 15 years of drug development experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, including experience leading a toxicology or nonclinical safety functionTrack record advancing multiple programs from IND through Phase I, II, and III clinical development, with direct experience authoring and defending FDA and international regulatory submissions. 

• Experience with ADCs (Antibody-Drug Conjugate) and small molecule strongly preferred 

• Experience presenting toxicology and nonclinical safety strategy to senior management and external stakeholders, including investors and partners. 

• People-leadership experience, including hiring, developing, and managing a team, plus experience owning a department budget. 

• Strong knowledge of safety pharmacology and toxicology study design in compliance with GLP, ICH, FDA, and EMA guidelines across multiple therapeutic modalities. 

• Proven experience preparing and defending regulatory submissions (IND, CTA, NDA, BLA, MAA, etc.) in direct interactions with global regulatory authorities. 

• Experience contributing a toxicology and safety perspective to business development or due diligence activities preferred. 

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership and represent the function credibly outside the company. 

• Certification by the American Board of Toxicology (D.A.B.T.) required or strongly preferred. 

• Travel required as needed.

Salary Range: $360K – $420K
