Job Description
We're seeking an experienced Senior Mining Engineer – Long Term Planning to join our high performing Technical Services team. As a key member of our planning team, you will drive the development and optimisation of long-term plans. This role is pivotal in ensuring alignment with business objectives, operational efficiency, and resource maximisation.
The scope of Hail Creek’s mining methodology is extensive with four active mining areas, varied mining methods (steep and shallow dipping seams), trucks and shovel operations and multiple working plies.
The role involves:
- Develop, review, and optimize long-term mine plans in line with business strategy.
- Lead the life of mine planning (LOM) and 5 years budget planning process, include final pit shell design and production scheduling.
- Follow the long-term design process guideline including completing the signoff sheet and Geotechnical Design Approval Forms (GDAF).
- Involved in life of mine (LOM) and 5 years budget planning risk assessment.
- Verify scheduling assumptions and time usage model assumptions.
- Create final landform design includes yearly disturbance and rehabilitation plan.
- Assist with corporate reporting as required including NGER’s reports.
- Work closely with geologists, medium-term planners to ensure seamless integration of plans.
- Identify and analyse strategic opportunities to improve mine productivity and cost efficiency.
- Conduct scenario analysis and present recommendations to senior leadership.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, regulatory, and safety standards.

About the Candidate
The successful candidate will bring the following skills and experience to the role:
- Degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in open cut coal mine planning.
- Proficient in mine planning software (e.g. Spry, Vulcan, Deswik).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience is a plus.

Commercial Flight Support is available per written request for senior staff members and above, for flights from Mackay (MKY) to Brisbane (BNE) return.
