About the Role

Are you an experienced infrastructure engineer ready to work across stable, enterprise-grade environments while supporting a diverse MSP customer base? As a Senior Infrastructure Service Desk Engineer, you will support and maintain core infrastructure platforms across servers, virtualisation, networking, storage, backup, and hybrid environments.

You will play a key role in maintaining secure, resilient customer infrastructure while contributing to service improvement, reliability, and effective incident resolution. The role combines strong foundational infrastructure expertise with exposure to Microsoft 365 and hybrid technologies.

Ideal Profile

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering or advanced service desk roles, ideally within an MSP environment.

• Strong hands-on experience supporting on-premises infrastructure.

• Proven capability across server, networking, and virtualisation technologies.

• Experience supporting multiple customers and varied infrastructure environments is highly desirable.

Technical Capability

• Windows Server administration, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.

• VMware and Hyper-V virtualisation.

• Backup and recovery platforms such as Veeam, Commvault, Cove, or similar.

• Networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, VPNs, firewalls, switching, and routing.

• Microsoft 365 administration across Exchange Online, Teams, and SharePoint.

• Basic Azure exposure, particularly in hybrid environments.

• PowerShell scripting for administration and automation.

Desirable

• Experience with security tooling, endpoint protection, and vulnerability management.

• Experience supporting hybrid Microsoft environments.

• Familiarity with RMM and PSA platforms such as N-central and Autotask.

• SharePoint administration experience.

• Hands-on data centre experience, including hardware support, racking/stacking, and physical infrastructure management.

• Understanding of ITIL processes and service delivery frameworks.

Qualifications & Certifications

• Degree in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

• Microsoft or relevant vendor certifications are highly regarded.

• ITIL Foundation is desirable.

Responsibilities

Core Infrastructure & Platform Operations

• Provide advanced support across primarily on-premises and hybrid customer infrastructure environments.

• Administer Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, IIS, and file/print services.

• Support on-premises and hybrid Microsoft Exchange environments.

• Provision, administer, monitor, and troubleshoot virtual servers across VMware, Hyper-V, and other applicable hypervisors.

• Perform OS administration, including patching, performance tuning, and capacity management.

• Support Linux servers across mixed environments where required.

Networking & Infrastructure Services

• Support switching, routing, firewalls, and VPN connectivity.

• Troubleshoot LAN/WAN connectivity issues.

• Maintain the availability and performance of core infrastructure services.

Storage, Backup & Disaster Recovery

• Administer and maintain backup platforms such as Veeam, Rubrik, Cove, and Commvault.

• Monitor backup jobs, investigate failures, and maintain recovery capability.

• Support disaster recovery planning and testing.

• Maintain applicable SAN/NAS storage platforms.

MSA-Aligned Services & Platforms

• Support managed services technologies including RMM, PSA, backup, recovery, security, and Microsoft 365 platforms.

• Administer and support SharePoint, including permissions, access, and document management structures.

• Ensure service delivery aligns with customer MSAs, SLAs, and operational standards.

Incident, Problem & Change Management

• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues across servers, networking, storage, and virtualisation.

• Participate in major incident response and resolution.

• Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventative measures.

• Operate within ITIL-aligned incident, request, and change management processes.

Security & Systems Reliability

• Apply system hardening, patching, and infrastructure security best practices.

• Support vulnerability remediation and security improvement initiatives.

• Maintain least-privilege access across infrastructure systems.

• Assist with compliance against internal and customer security standards.

Hybrid & Cloud

• Support Microsoft 365 and Azure environments where they integrate with core infrastructure.

• Assist with migrations and hybrid configurations.

• Support identity integration between on-premises Active Directory and cloud services.
