The team

We are looking for the Senior Expert Engineer who shapes the technical direction of ING’s Omnichannel and help realize ING’s scalable bank strategy across countries.

Omnichannel is where ING connects with customers across countries. Based in the Netherlands, close to one of ING’s largest customer bases, our focus is on designing, building and operating the solutions behind Conversational Banking, OneApp, OneWeb and Assisted Channels. These customer journeys solutions are reused across countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Australia, with further adoption planned across the ING network.

Roles and responsibilities

As a Senior Expert Engineer, you are part of the Omnichannel Management Team and reporting to the Omnichannel CIO. You will work closely with product tech leads, expert engineers, chapter leads (but also architects and IT area leads) to drive engineering excellence and long term technical strategy. You will help define the tech vision, influence critical technology decisions, simplify complex engineering challenges and ensure that solutions are secure, reliable, scalable and reusable across countries.

You will:

• Drive the technical vision of OneApp, OneWeb, Assisted Channels and Conversational Banking.
• Influence technology decisions across omnichannel teams and countries.
• Make sure that our solutions are secure and reliable.
• Help teams solve complex engineering challenges and remove technical barriers to scale.
• Drive engineering excellence and accelerate AI adoption and building AI/agentic solutions.
• Ensure our solutions are built with a global mindset, so they can be scaled and adopted across multiple ING countries.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor to the Omnichannel CIO and leadership team.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a  technical leader who combines deep engineering expertise with the ability to influence technical direction across teams, products and countries.

You will be successful in this role when you:

• 10+ years of engineering experience in complex, large-scale technology environments, building and operating customer-facing and mobile solutions with a strong focus on reliability, security and operational excellence.
• Proven ability to solve complex technical challenges with impact beyond a single product, domain or country.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence engineers, architects and senior stakeholders up to CIO level.
• Strong technical foundation in modern architecture, security, reliability, testing and engineering best practices, e.g. DDD, TDD, and XP.
• Experience across multiple technology areas, such as front-end, back-end, mobile, AI and agentic based solutions and platform engineering.
• Experience mentoring engineers and raising engineering capability across teams.
• Experience defining enterprise or domain technology visions.
• A clear view of what good technology looks like and how to build it in practice.
