We're looking for a Senior Accountant – Revenue to join our global Finance team and play an important role in ensuring accurate, timely and scalable revenue accounting across our SaaS business.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Revenue Manager, the Senior Accountant – Revenue will support Poppulo's monthly revenue close and have significant responsibility for revenue recognition, customer contract review, deferred revenue, reconciliations and revenue analysis.
The successful candidate will apply ASC 606 to SaaS customer arrangements, independently analyze routine and moderately complex contracts, and identify matters requiring escalation to the Revenue Manager or Technical Accounting team.
The role will also partner closely with Billing, Accounts Receivable, Sales Operations and other Finance teams and help ensure the integrity of revenue information flowing between ZoneBilling, NetSuite and NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management (ARM).
Key Responsibilities
- Support monthly, quarterly and annual close activities for revenue-related accounts, including revenue recognition entries, revenue and COGS accruals, deferred revenue reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Review new customer contracts, renewals, amendments and other revenue arrangements to determine appropriate accounting treatment under ASC 606 and Poppulo accounting policies.
- Independently analyze routine and moderately complex arrangements, document accounting conclusions and identify complex or non-standard matters requiring escalation.
- Prepare and analyze revenue and margin reporting, including variance and flux analysis, and investigate unusual trends or discrepancies.
- Maintain complete and accurate support for revenue transactions, reconciliations and accounting conclusions.
- Monitor and reconcile revenue information flowing between ZoneBilling, NetSuite and NetSuite ARM and resolve system or data discrepancies.
- Partner with Billing, Accounts Receivable, Sales Operations, GL Accounting and Technical Accounting to ensure complete and accurate revenue reporting.
- Support internal and external audit requests related to revenue and associated balance-sheet accounts.
- Participate in revenue-system enhancements, integrations, process improvements and automation initiatives.
Required Experience
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful hands-on experience in revenue accounting or revenue recognition.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline.
- Strong working knowledge of ASC 606 and demonstrated experience applying it to customer contracts.
- Experience reviewing SaaS, software, subscription or similar customer arrangements and determining appropriate revenue recognition treatment.
- Experience with month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, deferred revenue and financial analysis.
- SaaS, software, subscription-based or technology industry experience strongly preferred.
- Strong Excel and analytical skills, including experience reconciling and analyzing large datasets.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a globally distributed organization.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet close deadlines.
Systems Experience
- Experience with ERP and/or automated revenue-recognition systems.
- NetSuite and NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management (ARM) experience strongly preferred, but not required.
- Experience with comparable revenue platforms, such as Zuora Revenue, is relevant.
- Experience working across billing, CRM and accounting-system integrations is preferred.
Nice to Have
- CA, CPA, CMA or equivalent professional accounting qualification, or progress toward qualification; certification is preferred but not required.
- Experience with multi-entity and multi-currency SaaS revenue accounting.
- Experience supporting external/internal audits.
- Experience with complex SaaS arrangements, including multiple performance obligations and contract modifications.
