Sobre este puesto de Senior Accountant en Exactera

Exactera · Presencial · San Diego

Exactera has offices in New York City, Tarrytown NY, San Diego, CA, London, and Argentina.

About the role

Exactera is scaling its finance function and is looking for a highly dependable Senior Accountant who combines strong US GAAP knowledge with a process-builder mindset and a high degree of personal accountability. This role is for someone who earns trust by delivering accurate work on tight schedules, raising issues early, and driving them through to resolution.

Exactera helps large multinationals manage complex tax work, including transfer pricing, R&D tax credits, indirect tax, and audit defense. We are evolving from a software-and-services business into an AI-native, tech-enabled services company where technology performs more of the underlying work and experienced practitioners provide the judgment required for accurate, defensible outcomes.

You will take ownership across the corporate accounting activities behind our P&L, including cost of revenue, operating expenses, procure-to-pay, payroll, intercompany accounting, and related balance sheet accounts. You will work in close partnership with both the Controller and Director of FP&A to ensure these areas are accurate, well supported, completed on schedule, and connected to the operating performance of the business.

Working from clear finance-team priorities, you will collaborate with colleagues to identify the processes and account areas that require stronger ownership, diagnose where they break or fail to scale, and take personal accountability for driving fixes through implementation. You will establish the structure, controls, documentation, and operating cadence required for accurate, repeatable execution.

This is a highly accountable role. You will work with the Controller, Director of FP&A, and broader team to achieve strong outcomes while taking personal responsibility for quality, deadlines, and complete follow-through. You take pride in getting the accounting right and leaving processes stronger than you found them.

AI is already part of how finance works at Exactera. We use Claude and ChatGPT to accelerate research, analysis, accounting documentation, and reconciliation work; Ramp supports our procure-to-pay lifecycle; and Rillet is becoming our core ERP.  Technology should make a strong accounting process better - not substitute for one.

You will report to the Director of FP&A and work in close partnership with both finance leaders. The Controller will be a core partner on US GAAP, close execution, controls, and audit readiness; the Director of FP&A on priorities, business context, performance insights, and cross-functional execution. This is currently an individual-contributor role with meaningful ownership
and room to grow.

What you'll do

These five areas will define success during your first 12 to 18 months.

  1. Own and scale the procure-to-pay lifecycle.
You will own the process from initial request through final payment, identify breakdowns and manual handoffs, and redesign workflows in Ramp for contracts, purchase requests, purchase orders, approvals, invoice processing, coding, payment runs, and documentation.
You will own vendor onboarding, tax-document collection, close-related accruals, annual vendor reporting, and the corporate card and expense program. Working with our AP Clerk and business partners, you will establish clear procedures and practical purchasing, expense, and approval policies.
You will also maintain timely bank reconciliations and support a reliable daily view of cash. The goal is a scalable, well-controlled process that improves efficiency while maintaining appropriate review, documentation, segregation of duties, and visibility into exceptions.
  2. Own payroll accounting and build service payroll economics.
You will own the accounting and financial-control activities surrounding payroll while partnering with internal teams and payroll providers on execution.
You will maintain earning codes, department and product-line mappings, allocation rules, and appropriate cost classifications.
Using US GAAP and an understanding of our business economics, you will ensure payroll costs are recognized, allocated, and reconciled appropriately.
You will strengthen the complete flow from accruals and estimated entries through actual postings, allocations, liability reconciliations, and timely clearing of related balances, while creating reliable monthly visibility by department, product line, and entity.
  3. Own intercompany accounting and policy execution.
You will own the day-to-day processes supporting Exactera's intercompany and transfer-pricing policies, including charges and cost allocations, invoicing, balance reconciliation, settlements, foreign-exchange adjustments, and consolidation eliminations.
In partnership with the Controller, Director of FP&A, and our tax advisers, you will ensure our strategies are reflected consistently in the accounting records and supported by appropriate documentation. You will identify breakdowns, resolve aging items, and maintain support that is ready for audit or tax review.
  4. Own key close areas and strengthen the corporate accounting close.
You will own key monthly and annual close areas across operating expenses and cost of revenue, including accruals and cutoff, prepaids and amortization, accrued compensation, fixed assets and depreciation, lease accounting, payroll, intercompany activity, and multi-currency remeasurement.
You will apply US GAAP to record transactions accurately and in the correct period, maintain high-quality balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules, and research and document accounting conclusions when judgment is required.
In partnership with the Controller and Director of FP&A, you will identify breakdowns and drive improvements to the close calendar, documentation, reconciliations, and follow-through on open items. You will coordinate with revenue accounting and deliver annual audit support for the areas you own.
  5. Own accounting execution in Rillet and optimize it after launch.
We are replacing NetSuite with Rillet as part of the broader modernization of finance. Depending on hiring timing, you may join during cutover or stabilization. You will own accounting execution across data mapping, testing, reconciliation, documentation, control design, and post-launch optimization.
You will use Rillet, Ramp, AI, and other automation tools to make recurring work faster, more scalable, and more reliable while preserving appropriate review, documentation, and accounting judgment.

What success looks like

By the end of your first 12 to 18 months, you will have delivered or materially advanced the following outcomes:

  • A dependable monthly close completed by business day 5, with timely, well-supported reconciliations, consistent resolution of open items, and issues escalated before the deadline.
  • Accruals, payroll accounting, cost allocations, intercompany activity, and operating expenses accounted for consistently in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Accounting processes in your areas that are documented, repeatable, appropriately controlled, and understandable to someone other than the person who created them.
  • At least 80% of in-policy invoices moving from intake through coding, approval, and payment without manual finance intervention, with exceptions clearly routed in Ramp.
  • No unreconciled intercompany items older than 30 days, with monthly balance agreement and timely settlement.
  • Audit and review support delivered on schedule, organized, easy to follow, and requiring minimal rework.
  • Clear, proactive partnership with both the Controller and Director of FP&A on priorities, accounting judgments, deadlines, business implications, and unresolved risks.

What we're looking for

Required

  • 3 to 5+ years of progressive accounting experience and a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and hands-on experience with monthly close, journal entries, accruals and cutoff, balance sheet reconciliations, operating expenses, and cost of revenue.
  • A demonstrated record of delivering accurate work under tight close, reporting, or audit deadlines; prioritizing effectively; and communicating risks early.
  • A high degree of accountability and pride in results. You work with the team to identify processes and account areas that need attention and take personal responsibility for driving them from diagnosis through durable resolution.
  • A strong auditability mindset. Your work is supported, documented, organized, and capable of standing up to Controller and external-auditor review, including when accounting judgment is required.
  • Proven experience owning and improving accounting processes, finding where they break or fail to scale, and building reconciliations, controls, and documentation that produce accurate, repeatable results.
  • Experience across procure-to-pay, payroll accounting, and intercompany accounting, ideally in a multi-entity environment.
  • Sound judgment around materiality, cutoff, classification, accruals, reconciliation differences, and when an issue should be escalated.
  • The ability to partner effectively with both the Controller and Director of FP&A while remaining personally accountable for results, plus strong Excel and modern-systems skills and an interest in finance automation.

Preferred

  • CPA or progress toward CPA certification.
  • Big Four or other public accounting experience.
  • Experience preparing accounting memos, technical accounting analyses, policies, or audit documentation and responding directly to audit requests.
  • Experience in professional services, technology-enabled services, or another business where labor is a meaningful component of cost of revenue.
  • Multi-entity, multi-currency, or cross-border accounting experience, including exposure to transfer-pricing arrangements.
  • Experience with NetSuite, Rillet, Ramp, ERP migrations, ASC 842, SQL, APIs, no-code automation, or agentic workflow tools.

We recognize that strong candidates may not have experience in every preferred area. If the role is exciting to you and your
experience aligns with most of what we need, we encourage you to apply.

What We Offer:
(The following only applies to US-based positions)

  • A collaborative team culture with opportunities for career development.
  • Ample opportunities to be recognized, build valuable skills, and grow your career.
  • Generous vacation policy, including paid parental leave.
  • Comprehensive health plans with FSA and HSA options.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Life and disability insurance coverage.
