An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an Area Manager to join a nationally significant Defence infrastructure project on the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, located in Australia’s remote north-west Indian Ocean Territory.

As the ideal candidate you will bring substantial experience in an Area Manager, Construction Manager, or Project Manager capacity, with a strong track record of delivering successful outcomes. Reporting directly to the Senior Construction Manager, you will take ownership of a significant package of civil and infrastructure works and play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of critical project outcomes. This position offers a high degree of autonomy and accountability, making it ideal for a disciplined and proactive professional who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems and driving results in a complex project environment.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the delivery of construction, airfield and enabling works packages from planning through to commissioning and handover.
• Driving safety, quality, program and commercial outcomes across your area of responsibility.
• Managing subcontractors and supply chain partners to achieve successful project delivery whilst building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants and key project stakeholders.
• Coordinating project interfaces, resources and multidisciplinary work fronts to ensure seamless delivery.
• Identifying, managing and mitigating project risks while proactively resolving issues.
• Establishing clear performance expectations and fostering a culture of accountability and high performance.
• Ensuring works are delivered in accordance with project specifications, contractual requirements and industry standards.

About you

You are either an established Area Manager or suitably experienced Project Manager or Construction Manager seeking your next challenge, or you may even be an exceptional accomplished Senior Project Engineer looking to transition into a broader project leadership role.  Supported by relevant tertiary qualifications, you bring proven project delivery experience, strong commercial and stakeholder management capability, and the ability to successfully lead complex work packages and multidisciplinary teams.

Experience delivering Defence, aviation, infrastructure or remote projects will be highly regarded. You are a natural leader who builds strong relationships, develops high-performing teams and fosters a culture of trust, accountability and collaboration. Combined with your attention to detail, self-starting nature and disciplined approach to delivery, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of this nationally significant project.
