Rate: Up to £550/day
IR35 status: Inside IR35
Contract dates: ASAP to 31/03/2027, with a potential extension to 31/03/2028

Overview
Our customer, a large defence organisation, is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to support the delivery of the engineering and technical aspects of in-service support for the AJAX fleet.
The role will involve engagement with a wide range of stakeholders and organisations and will report to the In-Service Engineering Manager.
Team Context
The AJAX Programme sits within the National Armaments Director Group (NAD) and is delivered as part of the Land Combat Vehicles Portfolio.
The AJAX team comprises several pillars, each representing a stage in the project lifecycle. This role sits within the In-Service Pillar, which is responsible for all engineering and support activity for the in-service AJAX fleet.
Key Responsibilities
Support the In-Service Engineering Manager
- Support the In-Service Engineering Manager in coordinating engineering activities to help maintain operational readiness.
Foster Collaboration
- Work with Project Managers, Engineers and Stakeholders across Contractor, Army and internal teams to help identify and track engineering issues.
Issue Monitoring
- Help monitor in-service engineering issues and escalate concerns to the In-Service Engineering Manager to minimise operational impact.
Support the Pillar Lead
- Provide technical data, progress updates and risk information to the Pillar Lead under guidance.
- Support Deputy duties as needed.
Cross-functional Support
- Coordinate with logistics, maintenance and supply chain teams to help ensure engineering support requirements are met.
Continuous Improvement Aid
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by gathering data and supporting quality and reliability efforts.
Compliance Assistance
- Assist in ensuring adherence to engineering standards, safety regulations and project requirements.
Documentation Support
- Maintain and update records of engineering issues, resolutions and decisions to support in-service engineering activities.
Essential Experience/Skills
- Hold a suitable Engineering qualification and level of training (at level 4 or greater).
- As a minimum be Professional Registered as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) or equivalent.
- Have experience of providing technical advice and delivery of successful engineering outputs.
Desired Experience/Skills
- Have experience of asset management and In-service military equipment.
- Experience of working on large complex engineering programmes.
- Experience of major large and diverse stakeholder groups.
Additional Information
- Weekly working pattern:
- 1 day per week on site at General Dynamics in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales.
- 3 days per week on site at MOD Abbey Wood, Bristol.
- 1 day per week working from home.
- SC Clearance required.
- UK nationals only.
The core requirement runs to 31 March 2027, with a potential extension to 31 March 2028. The extension is subject to customer requirements and is not guaranteed.
