The NPD Quality Engineer leads all Quality aspects of new product development, by influencing the customer, the Sensata development team (Design, Process, Program Management, etc.), and the Sensata Manufacturing team. The goal of the NPD Quality Engineer is to achieve flawless execution of product development. A successful NPD Quality Engineer possesses the following strengths: strong leadership, very proactive, results oriented, strong follow-through, the ability to influence others, a strong technical understanding of Sensata’s products, a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, and the motivation and ability to independently reach across geographical and cultural boundaries to solve problems.
General Responsibilities
NPD Quality Leadership & Quality System Governance
- Deploy Quality policies, objectives, and goals within cross-functional teams and ensure globally consistent application of Sensata's NPD process throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Drive continuous improvement of the Sensata NPD process and Quality Management System by incorporating lessons learned, best practices, customer feedback, field data, and applicable industry standards including ASTM, ISO, CQI, and customer-specific requirements.
- Audit engineering, project management, and quality deliverables for completeness, clarity, accuracy, and compliance with Sensata, customer, regulatory, and industry requirements.
Customer Requirements & Compliance Management
- Capture, flow down, communicate, and ensure implementation of Customer Specific Requirements (CSR) across all launch team members, product documentation, and development activities.
- Ensure Sensata envelope drawings, FAS drawings, engineering deliverables, and manufacturing processes remain aligned with customer-specific requirements and product specifications.
- Ensure full compliance with customer quality systems and development methodologies, including APQP, PPAP, VDA, Agile deliverables, SOP milestones, and applicable regulatory, safety, and quality standards. Compile, submit, and track PPAP packages through internal and customer approval systems. Manage customer deviations, concessions, and quality-related escalations during APQP, development, validation, and launch phases. Represent Quality in customer meetings, customer visits, audits, and launch reviews throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Assume full ownership of product quality throughout NPD by assessing product design, manufacturing processes, validation activities, and supplier readiness against customer and Sensata requirements. Work closely with Operations Quality Engineering (OQE), Process Engineering, Manufacturing, and Program Management teams to ensure successful launch readiness and execution. Analyze engineering changes, deviations, design updates, process modifications, and supply chain changes for risk, ensuring implementation of lessons learned, best practices, preventive measures, and appropriate change-control processes to prevent unapproved changes from reaching customers.
- Develop and execute robust Zero Defect Safe Launch strategies with support from cross-functional teams to ensure flawless product introduction and manufacturing readiness.
- Develop sample build inspection strategies and checklists for B-sample and C-sample builds and support successful execution of validation and launch activities.
- Coordinate Measurement System Analysis (MSA) studies, Process Capability studies (SPC/Cpk), and related quality activities required for PPAP package development and customer approvals.
Product Quality Ownership, Risk Management & Launch Readiness
- Assume full ownership of product quality throughout NPD by assessing product design, manufacturing processes, validation activities, and supplier readiness against customer and Sensata requirements. Problem Solving, Failure Analysis & Continuous Improvement
- Lead and participate in structured problem-solving activities, including 8D, containment actions, root cause analysis, failure investigations, and application of the 5 Whys methodology to determine failure occurrence, detection gaps, and Quality Management System weaknesses.
- Coordinate product teardown activities, field return investigations, failure analysis, and technical feedback loops between quality, engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, customers, and management. Assess risks identified through Failure Analysis activities and ensure appropriate read-across into future NPD projects and Lessons Learned databases. Ensure a robust Field Return Analysis process is established as a key development deliverable and that findings are incorporated into future product and process improvements.
- Drive timely implementation of corrective and preventive actions resulting from failure analyses, customer issues, audits, and launch activities, ensuring all outcomes are captured within the Lessons Learned system and applied across future programs. Train and coach Operations Quality and plant teams to ensure effective project handover, ownership transfer, and application of Lessons Learned, 8D findings, and corrective actions prior to project closure.
Experience / Qualifications
- B. S. degree or above, majoring in Engineering or other equivalent ones. MS ELECRTIRCAL, MECHANICAL, CHEMICAL
- Ideally, a minimum of 3 years of experience in New Product Development (NPD) Quality is required, along with a strong understanding of Quality Management Systems and standards such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and VDA 6.3. The candidate should have experience working in complex manufacturing environments, demonstrated leadership and stakeholder management capabilities, exposure to both NPD and R&D activities, a solid understanding of serial production quality requirements, and experience in program management.
- Be familiar with quality management and manufacturing processes; also familiar with AIAG manual: APQP, FMEA, MSA, PPAP and SPC a plus. Experience in process / product engineering is a plus.
- Be familiar with core quality tools such as SPC/MSA/PFMEA/PPAP/APQP
- Customer satisfaction handling experience
- Ability to develop unique, differentiated solutions to complex problems – strong problem-solving skills (8D/5Why/Fishbone Root Cause Analysis)
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing. – Experience over qualifications
- Good English language ability in reading, writing, and speaking.
Gross Annual Salary Range:
23,274.00 EUR - 32,002.30 EUR
The salary range is published in line with the EU Pay Transparency Directive and relevant country legislation.
