Role Overview
We are looking for experts who can reconstruct precise musical scores from complex polyphonic recordings. The work involves separating simultaneous vocal or instrumental lines, identifying pitches and rhythmic events, producing accurate notation, and using Python and computational audio tools to support analysis and validation.
This is not a general audio-production or speech-transcription role. Strong ear training, polyphonic transcription, music theory, notation, and technical problem-solving abilities are essential.

HOURLY RATE: $50-$100/h
Responsibilities
- Transcribe complex polyphonic musical recordings into structured notation.
- Separate simultaneous soprano, alto, tenor, and bass lines from mixed audio.
- Identify pitches, note onsets, durations, rests, and re-articulations.
- Quantize musical events to the appropriate rhythmic structure.
- Apply accurate key signatures, accidentals, and enharmonic spelling.
- Generate, edit, and validate MusicXML scores.
- Use Python for audio inspection, spectral analysis, and workflow automation.
- Validate transcriptions through musical review, structured checks, or resynthesis.
- Identify and correct subtle pitch, rhythm, voicing, or notation discrepancies.
- Produce accurate and reproducible transcription workflows.
Requirements
- Strong Python programming ability.
- Advanced ear training and demonstrated polyphonic music-transcription skills.
- Strong knowledge of harmony, rhythm, voice leading, and standard musical notation.
- Experience with SATB music, choral arranging, score preparation, or comparable multi-part transcription.
- Ability to distinguish simultaneous musical lines from mixed recordings.
- Experience creating or manipulating digital musical scores.
- Ability to validate complex transcriptions for musical and technical accuracy.
- Strong written English for documenting technical approaches and results.
