About LondonEnergy

LondonEnergy operates the second largest waste contract in the UK, handling and processing nearly 750,000 tonnes of London’s waste every year. We have a dedicated team of people working across our various North London sites, making a positive difference to the environment and the local community.

By processing household waste at our facility, we produce enough waste from energy to power 80,000 homes every year and recycle 70% of items through our Reuse and Recycling Centres.

Responsibilities

• Receive and inspect waste and recyclable materials, reporting non-conforming or contaminated waste as per company procedures.
• Operate loading shovels and 360 excavators to move materials into the RFPF tipping hall.
• Assist with safe traffic and pedestrian control within the site to ensure smooth operations.
• Perform daily maintenance checks and cleaning of plant and machinery, reporting any defects immediately.
• Support plant fitters with replacement of wear parts and routine mechanical upkeep.
• Maintain cleanliness of the machines and site, including handling spillages and keeping tipping areas clear of debris.
• Identify and report potential hazards, and carry out other duties as directed by supervisors or at other company sites.

Requirements

• Average 39-hour work week on a shift rota, including 12 hour nights, days, weekends and bank holidays; flexibility required for shift changes.
• Must hold a recognised mobile plant certificate (e.g., CITB) for operating wheeled loading shovels over 10 tonnes.
• Work is both indoors and outdoors, often in challenging weather conditions.
• Role involves physical, manual work; candidates must be fit for manual labour.
• Annual and bank holiday leave is subject to management discretion due to 24/7 site operations.
• Preferred: 1+ year experience operating relevant machinery and flexibility to cover shifts for other operators.
• Additional qualifications like WAMITAB Level 2 or Health & Safety certification are advantageous.
