What You’ll Do:
Traeger is seeking a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Advanced Product Research & Development (APRD) team in Salt Lake City, UT. This is a fantastic opportunity for an early-career engineer who wants to learn from experienced mentors while getting hands-on with new product development, prototyping, and emerging technologies.
You will work alongside our senior mechanical engineers, supporting them through the advanced development phase—from concept sketches through working prototypes—and helping build the technical documentation that carries a design from idea into production.
How You'll Help Us Win:
- Work alongside our senior mechanical engineers, supporting new product development from early concept through prototyping.
- Apply fundamental mechanical engineering principles to help evaluate and refine design concepts.
- Build and iterate on CAD models, applying Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFM/DFA) thinking to keep designs practical to produce.
- Get hands-on with fabrication tools to build and test prototypes—from rough mock-ups to more refined builds.
- Run structured testing, competitor benchmarking, subsystem proof-outs, and evaluation of cooking performance and thermal properties to validate designs with data.
- Bring a strong drive to learn, asking questions and picking up new skills, tools, and processes quickly.
- Support cross-functional collaboration with industrial design, electrical engineering, and manufacturing partners.
- Travel as needed to support supplier visits, prototype builds, and new product introduction.
What You'll Need to Succeed:
- Fundamental understanding and previous experience in mechanical engineering.
- Background in CAD (SolidWorks preferred), prototyping, and a strong understanding of DFM/DFA principles.
- Hands-on experience with fabrication tools.
- A strong drive to learn.
- A strong analytical and curious mind, with an understanding of how to control your test environment for repeatable, reliable results.
- Willingness to travel.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
A portfolio of past design or build projects is a great way to show us what you can do—not required, but always welcome.
