KGW Executive Producer – Job Description
KGW in Portland, Oregon, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive Producer to lead our evening team.
The executive producer will oversee reporters, producers, digital producers, assignment editors and other journalists on the evening shift. They will be responsible for content across all KGW platforms during the evening, including the 11 p.m. newscast, streaming video, mobile app and more.
The ideal candidate will have experience managing a cross-functional team. This job isn’t just about crafting a great 11 p.m. newscast; it’s about creating great journalism across all our platforms.

This is a full-time, salaried position.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinates and oversees daily newsgathering efforts in the evening. A typical shift is 2:30-11:30 p.m.
• Assigns daily stories and projects to reporters, anchors, photographers, and digital team and monitors the progress of story development
• Assigns and oversees medium- and long-term projects and stories.
• Focuses on accuracy and strong writing in our scripts and digital products. Approves all on-air scripts prior to news broadcasts.
• Aggressively covers breaking news for all platforms.
• Champions story planning and works with entire team to produce engaging storytelling through strong writing, visuals, use of sound, graphics, and other production techniques.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or equivalent experience
• Must have a strong working knowledge of all aspects of newscast production, AP style broadcast writing, and journalistic standards.
• 5+ years producing and showcasing content in a newsroom environment, preferably 3+ years in leadership role
• Excellent copyediting skills for both broadcast and digital writing
• A desire and demonstrated ability to lead other journalists
• Passion and vision for emerging media, ability to pivot based on new technology
• Strong organizational, motivational, and communication skills
• Ability to work any shift as assigned, including a weekend on-call rotation
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
