FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt - overtime pursuant to Collective Bargaining Agreement

EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP: Just cause subject to probationary period

CURRENT HOURS AND STARTING TIME: Full-time (37.5 hours per week) position. The starting time for this position is 7:30 a.m. Flexible/On-call hours will be required as needed based on operational needs.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under direction, provides supervision of employees and prioritizes work assignments. Facilitates, coordinates, and oversees projects with multiple contractors. Working from blueprints, drawings, and layouts, modifies electrical installations to minimize waste of materials. Performs inspections of equipment and systems to detect hazards and perform required upgrades.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinates projects with architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and consultants.

Inspects projects completed by external contractors and responds to issues.

Assists with Capital Improvement Projects, attends pre-construction walk-throughs, schedules work, and works with vendors to resolve problems.

Ensures materials are available in keeping with project timelines.

Installs, modifies and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatuses and control equipment.

Installs new electrical installations for additions or renovations to county owned facilities.

Follows diagrams and blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings and flooring.

Makes standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment.

Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs electrical conduit.

Pulls wiring through conduit.

Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together and applying tape or terminal caps.

Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.

Installs control and distribution apparatuses such as switches, relays and circuit-breaker panels.

Connects power cables to equipment and installs grounding leads.

Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components.

Maintains emergency generators, lift stations, and other electrical equipment and systems.

Makes routine inspections of installed equipment and systems to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement.

Maintains an inventory of parts and tools for daily maintenance and readiness for emergency situations.

Responds to after hour emergency calls and performs emergency service and preventative maintenance.

Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to perform tasks above ground level.

Operates an automobile to perform assigned job functions.  

Performs related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

  • Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test

  • Five (5) years of experience as a licensed Electrician

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Previous supervisory experience

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Current State of Michigan Master Electrician License

  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel
