Position Overview
Seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to install, commission, troubleshoot, and maintain critical electrical power distribution equipment used in data center environments. This is a hands-on field position for a dependable technician who can work independently, solve technical problems, and communicate effectively with customers and internal teams.
What You’ll Do
- Install, start up, test, and commission power distribution systems
- Verify system operation and perform functional testing
- Configure and troubleshoot HMIs and control interfaces
- Diagnose electrical issues involving 3-phase power systems, transformers, high-voltage components, and switchgear/distribution equipment
- Troubleshoot systems systematically and identify root causes in live infrastructure environments
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and mechanical drawings
- Follow applicable electrical codes and safety requirements
- Act as the onsite technical contact and coordinate with engineering and internal teams
- Train customer operators and maintenance personnel
- Communicate system conditions, findings, and next steps clearly through conversations, emails, and service reports
- Document service activities, labor hours, parts usage, and technical findings in the company system
- Identify recurring problems and recommend improvements to products and service processes
- Assist with service procedures, technical documentation, training materials, and internal knowledge resources
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
- 3–7+ years of experience in field service, electrical service, or a similar technical role
- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting abilities
- Working knowledge of 24V, 120V, and 480V systems
- Basic PLC troubleshooting experience
- Knowledge of fuses, breakers, and transformers
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
- Willingness to travel 75%+, including occasional short-notice travel
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills
- Experience working with data center power infrastructure
- Familiarity with switchgear, UPS systems, PDUs, RPPs, or similar equipment
- Previous commissioning support experience
- OSHA certification or formal safety training
