About Us

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!

Description of Work

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

This Position is located at Greene Correctional Institution in Greene County, NC.

This position is responsible for:

· Development, Implementation, Maintenance and Supervision of significant correction

programs at a minimum custody correctional facility

· Coordinate offenders' activities and support security operations

· Coordinate volunteer programs, recreation and supportive counseling

· Considerable contact with community agencies to enrich programs and establish new

programs

· Work with contract agencies/service provides to ensure effective delivery of programming

· Work under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can

become physically violent and verbally abusive, capable of defending oneself against attack

by a violent person

· Communicate effectively in verbal and written form with staff, offenders and the general public.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences:

Salary Range $39,244 - $68,679

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

· Knowledge of supportive counseling techniques.

· Knowledge of services available to individuals from the community and other public and private programs.

*Experience with Prisons’ policies and procedures, offender classification, and correctional programs.

About the Division of Institutions:

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC) uses the Merit-Based Recruitment and Selection Plan to fill positions with the most qualified individuals. Veterans’ and National Guard Preference:

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in corrections or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
