Job Summary

The Contract Analyst Sr. supports AEP's Nuclear Development organization and plays a key role in the procurement and commercial management of activities associated with the evaluation, development, licensing, engineering, construction, operations and maintenance of nuclear generation assets. This position is responsible for developing sourcing and contracting strategies, negotiating and administering contracts, managing commercial risk, and supporting supplier engagement activities for complex projects and services. The successful candidate will work closely with project management, engineering, licensing, environmental, legal, finance, operations and quality assurance personnel to support critical business objectives.
The role requires strong contract negotiation, analytical, and relationship management skills, along with the ability to balance cost, schedule, quality, and risk considerations in a highly regulated environment. The Contract Analyst Sr. will develop contract strategies, prepare and negotiate commercial agreements, administer contract modifications, support supplier performance and commercial issue identification and resolution, as well as provide routine progress updates to key stakeholders throughout the contract lifecycle.

Job Description

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead the development, negotiation, execution, and administration of moderately complex contracts and commercial agreements. 
  • Develop and implement training on contract administration and advise contract owners regarding contract management responsibilities, verification of services, and invoice approvals. 
  • Lead contract negotiations through strategy development, issue recognition, stakeholder alignment, and escalation of commercial issues when appropriate. 
  • Prepare modifications, amendments, change orders, and other contractual instruments utilizing various commercial structures and pricing mechanisms. 
  • Define and apply best-case and worst-case commercial scenarios to support negotiation strategies and business decision-making. 
  • Manage vendor communications, negotiations, dispute resolution, and contract-related issues throughout the contract lifecycle. 

Nuclear Development Project and Operations Support 

  • Support procurement and contracting activities associated with nuclear development projects, including engineering, environmental, licensing, site evaluation, consulting, owner’s engineering, construction and commissioning support, major equipment procurements, and on-going operations and maintenance support. 
  • Develop commercial strategies that support project objectives while considering regulatory, quality assurance, schedule, and risk management requirements. 
  • Collaborate with engineering, licensing, environmental, project management, finance, legal, quality, and operations organizations to ensure contract requirements align with business and project needs. 

Commercial Risk Management 

  • Evaluate and negotiate contractual provisions related to liability, indemnification, insurance, warranties, intellectual property, confidentiality, regulatory compliance, performance guarantees, and dispute resolution. 
  • Identify and communicate commercial risks and recommend mitigation strategies to project and business stakeholders. 
  • Support contract governance and documentation processes to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory obligations. 

Supplier Performance & Strategic Sourcing 

  • Assist in developing scopes of work, requests for proposal (RFPs), commercial evaluation criteria, and negotiation strategies. 
  • Assist in evaluating supplier capabilities, financial strength, performance history, and commercial competitiveness. 
  • Participate in the development of sourcing strategies that promote competition, schedule certainty, quality performance, and long-term value creation. 

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, pre-law or related field of study.

Work Experience: Minimum of four (4) years of related contract and/or procurement, project controls, commercial management, legal writing or related experience. 

Other Requirements:

  • Demonstrated understanding of commercial contracting principles and negotiation techniques. 
  • Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities within a dynamic project and operations environment. 
  • Ability to interpret contractual language and identify commercial risks. 
  • Willingness to learn and support activities associated with the development and operations of future nuclear generation resources. 

WHAT YOU'LL GET

Base Salary: approximately $99K - $128K
