The Continuous Improvement Engineer / Specialist II, under the direction of designated site Manager using established procedures, will provide continuous improvement engineering support and leadership in areas of process control, cost (yield and labor efficiency) improvement, product quality improvement, and cycle time reduction. The Continuous Improvement Engineer II will provide guidance to peer engineers in Lean Six Sigma and DMAIC problem solving methodologies. Additional responsibilities will be investigation and proposal of new procedures and methods to automate, improve, and/or scale-up existing processes. The Continuous Improvement Engineer II will work with operators, engineering, maintenance, quality, management, R&D, and production planning to accomplish these tasks.           

                                               

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Safety & Quality Management System:

  • Comply with and support all EH&S and quality programs, trainings, and policies while operating in a safe, honest, and ethical manner.

Process Control & Continuous Improvement:

  • Utilizing statistical process control methodologies, investigate and solve Operations and Quality issues in a variety of manufacturing environments that may span multiple areas or departments.
  • Analyze and improve existing processes and develop process metrics, control systems, and standard operating procedures to sustain improvements.
  • Collect and interpret manufacturing data to develop conclusions in root cause analysis of manufacturing issues.
  • Provide support and guidance for project teams to troubleshoot process issues and achieve continuous improvements in areas such as safety, quality, throughput, cost, and/or machine reliability.
  • Maintain open and frequent communications with operators and other engineers regarding continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other engineers on process improvement initiatives by providing support and guidance on Lean Six Sigma and DMAIC problem solving techniques.
  • Participate in continuous improvement project reviews and provide support and guidance to project leaders.
  • Report out to plant and divisional leadership on continuous improvement activity progress.

Product & Process Development:

  • Support the Product Development (R&D) and Operations teams to follow the New Product Development process in the analysis and development of process capability and control metrics.

Travel Requirements

  •  Up to 15% travel may be required based on business need.

Essential Qualifications & Capabilities

  • Bachelors’ degree in engineering or equivalent (Materials, Metallurgical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related discipline); advanced degree is a plus.  In lieu of a degree in engineering, 2-5 years of experience in participating and leading continuous improvement activities is required.
  • 2 - 5 years of process engineering or process improvement experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully participate on and/or lead technical teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple moderately complex assignments / projects.
  • Strong written and presentation skills.
  • Willingness and eagerness to learn, receive, and provide coaching.
  • Demonstrated history of operating with sense of urgency and accountability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Yellow Belt or Green Belt experience.
  • Training in Lean Six Sigma or DMAIC problem solving methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously in a limited capacity.

The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
