Duties & Role:
The main role for this junior contractor position is to undertake a range of analytical and data related tasks, under the direction and supervision of Operational Analysis (OA) staff. More specifically duties will entail:
- Undertaking Data and Operational Analysis. This will include being comfortable with large data sets and supporting analysis of complex problems using simple tools.
- The work may involve the use of various OA techniques including wargaming, modelling, what-if analysis, etc.
- Carrying out data collection, collation and analysis using a range of tools (this requires being comfortable using a range of tools such as Python, MS Excel, MAVEN Smart System (MSS)).
- Being able to undertake in a methodical way data collection using a range of sources and presenting data back in a concise, clear and logical manner.
- Supporting OA Centre staff in the development and update of documentation/reports.
- Producing, under time pressure, accurate (i.e. verified, validated and consistent) data sets using MS Office tools at an expert level.
- Summarising results to be presented in dashboards (e.g. Power BI, MSS), MS PowerPoint presentations and MS Word documents.
- This work may involve occasional short travels to Mons (BEL) and/or Brussels (BEL) to support OA staff (usually a day trip but occasionally this could be up to 3 days).
Requirements
Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
- The candidate must have a currently active NATO SECRET security clearance
- Recent experience in conducting analysis in support of decision makers.
- Ability to undertake detailed review and analysis of large data sets using commercial and in-house tools (e.g. MS Excel and other data integration and AI tools such as MSS).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, providing fit-for- purpose, rapid analysis under the direction of OA Centre staff.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing, particularly being competent in writing in English and communicating complex results in an understandable way.
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Experience in supporting analysts in a military environment. In particular a basic understanding of logistics military operations and/or air operations would be useful.
- Experience with data science techniques, Power BI or other statistical software (such as R), MAVEN Smart System.
- Being comfortable programming in Python.
- Knowledge/experience on Defence Planning and/or operational planning related work, either nationally or NATO.
