Job Description

Position : Associate Manager, Category Management

• Location: Midrand, South Africa
• Function:  Sales
• Report to Sales Operations
• 1 Direct Report

Overview:

The responsibility of this role is driving sustainable category growth and profitability by combining shopper, consumer, customer, and market insights. The role works closely with Sales, Marketing, Finance and Supply Chain to develop category strategies, identify growth opportunities and improve performance across customers and channels. The role is a data driven meaning all sales data driven tools (customer platforms such as Rex, Accelerate, PnP NIQ are deployed and managed through this role.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement category strategies aligned with overall business and customer objectives (Lead Category Thought Leadership).
• Identify category growth opportunities using market, shopper, consumer, and customer insights.
• In partnership with Customer Marketing, develop category selling stories that demonstrate opportunities for both the business and its customers.
• In partnership with Customer Marketing and Sales, develops Planograms, Fixturization, and CatMan strategies and executional guidelines for major Customers
• Establishes multi-level cross-functional working relationships with the customers to further drive business growth
• Completes periodic category analysis on assortment and make recommendations on optimisation 
• Develops planograms for assigned categories, and ensures that these are timely and properly implemented across channels/targeted customers
• Supports the Sales Team in the development of business plans and review decks (Customer Top 2 Top meetings)
• Supports the Customer Marketing and Sales Team in executing Advantage Survey action plans
• Pro-actively support the Field Sales Operations Manager in setting executional targets (e.g. Forward shares)
• Manage all sales data analytics (Customer platforms, Nielsen and Internal data control (Dial)

Experience you’ll bring:

• At least 3 years in a Customer Marketing and/or a Category Management role
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Commerce, Economics, or a related field.
• Knowledge of the Categories, pertinent Key Customers, and key Competitive set
• Strong management and leadership skills
• Proven track record of delivering objectives consistently

Behaviors you’ll need:

• Strategic mind set, understands the strategic & tactical nature of the business.
• Clear understanding of the different channel Go-To-Market principles/strategies, structures – Super/Hyper Markets, Wholesale, Distributor, and Club.
• Understands “ACNielsen NIQ” syndicated data, Customer Platforms like Rex, Accelerate and PnP NIQ
• Understands and able to operate Space Management Tools
• Strong Computer skills, Microsoft Office
• Manages executions diligently, with keen attention to details
• People management will be an advantage
• Analytical Skills
