Our Intelligence and Investigations teams work as trusted advisors to leading Fortune 500 companies, financial institutions, private market investors and law firms across the region. We help our clients understand and manage a variety of business risks, enabling them to succeed in complex environments. Your work as a member of the team will include evaluating potential local partners and investments, mapping out sources of reputational and integrity risk and conducting investigations to help our clients respond to internal and external threats to their operations, including helping to resolve disputes.
This role is responsible for;
Leading research and intelligence-led projects focused on determining integrity, anti-corruption, fraud related or other issues for our clients
Leading and mentoring a team of high-performing consultants
Developing and responding to revenue targets by demonstrating superior client and account management skills
Developing complex, bespoke proposals and tasks to stay ahead in a competitive market
Constantly seeking innovative ways to improve services we offer to our clients
Working with Intelligence & Investigations management peers to foster a positive and inclusive environment for the entire team
Tasks and responsibilities
Marketing and business development
Define and implement competitive business strategies and well-crafted business plans designed to expand the company’s standing with its clients
Consistently develop the company’s positioning with its clients to enhance business development in close co-ordination with the other practice areas, and secure higher fee-earning engagements
Identify opportunities to differentiate Control Risks services by applying crisis management, fraud and forensics, and political and country risk methodologies from other practice areas
Increase business generated from clients across in Japan by a percentage agreed in annual targets
Support development of technical and operational innovations
Represent Control Risks at events and other business development functions and assist in developing Control Risks’ profile within the region
Work closely with other regional BI teams on business development initiatives
Foster thriving client relationships, including exploiting cross-selling opportunities to relevant parts of the business
Take our clients to higher and broader levels of service; expand the relationship by service and geography
Project work
Produce high quality work ensuring that errors and inconsistencies are identified and addressed and that findings from different teams are seamlessly integrated into a final report
Multi-task – oversee multiple assignments, create project teams, set plans, deliverables and project budgets
Manage output from direct reports: supervise projects, ensure rigorous quality control and oversee delivery of service
Ensure projects are priced, structured and managed effectively to deliver on profit and within margin targets
Contribute to good cash flow by invoicing in a timely fashion and participating in the collection process
Design and implement strategy to ensure excellent coverage by expanding our network of resources and capabilities
Practice and team management
Support the leadership, development and coaching of a high-performing practice team
Invest in the ongoing enhancement and development of the team, colleagues, service line and client relationships
Identify and resolve skill gaps and recruit and retain high calibre consultants in consultation with local management
Set, and periodically review, objectives in line with company policy
Manage performance and offer specialist training in order to develop practice team
Manage effectively the commercial aspects of this practice, which include overall analysis of projects undertaken to ensure targets for profitability, utilisation and realisation are met
Participate in financial control of practice including budget planning
Knowledge and experience
Specific experience of effectively selling Business Intelligence & Compliance consulting services to clients
Understanding of the complexities of carrying out research in Japan
Extensive and demonstrable experience of operating within a commercial environment
Proven track record of successful project management and gaining repeat business from clients
Quantified track record of building new business
Proven experience of effectively managing a team to perform highly and meet/exceed given targets
Proven experience of successfully building effective and strong client relationships, being the preferred partner of choice
Commercial experience across Japan and the Northeast Asia region and understanding of that market and its specific characteristics in terms of corporate investigation services
Proven ability to work with and interpret management accounts
Requirements
Advanced skills in research, business intelligence, analysis and report writing
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ultimate responsibility for reviewing and ensuring documents written in professional business English or Japanese are “client-ready”
Close attention to detail
Ability to task and manage subcontractors for market enquiries
Ability to multi-task and manage multiple deadlines under time pressure
Demonstrable strong people management skills
Methodical approach and strong project management skills
Experience of managing volume screening engagements welcomed
Extensive and demonstrable experience of operating within a commercial environment
Demonstrable commercial acumen when planning and pricing projects in terms of time, resources and outcomes
