Casual Youth Worker

LOCATION  - Townsville , QLD

Make a Real Difference in the Lives of Young People

The Salvation Army is seeking passionate and dedicated Youth Workers to join our Youth Services team on a casual basis. This is an opportunity to support young people experiencing challenges related to alcohol and other drug dependency, helping them build life skills, strengthen resilience, and achieve positive outcomes in a safe and supportive residential environment.

About the Role

As a Youth Worker, you will provide practical and emotional support to young people living in a 24-hour residential service. You will help create a safe, secure, and nurturing environment while supporting clients to develop the skills and confidence needed to achieve their personal goals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building positive, respectful, and therapeutic relationships with young people.
  • Supporting clients through case management and individual support plans.
  • Assisting young people to develop essential life skills, including budgeting, personal wellbeing, healthy relationships, daily living skills, and independent living skills.
  • Encouraging participation in recreational, educational, and pro-social activities.
  • Providing information, advocacy, and referrals to appropriate community services.
  • Maintaining accurate client records, case notes, and reports.
  • Responding to crisis situations and critical incidents in line with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Supporting young people to strengthen family, social, and community connections.
  • Providing safe transport for clients when required.
  • Contributing to a positive, collaborative team culture and participating in ongoing professional development.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Certificate IV or higher in Youth Work, Community Services, Social Work, or a related discipline.
  • Experience supporting young people within a case management or community services framework.
  • Experience working with individuals impacted by alcohol and other drug use, mental health challenges, or complex support needs.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and conflict resolution skills.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches is highly regarded.
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities is desirable.

Essential Requirements

  • Current Driver Licence.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
