WIC Professional

Under general supervision of the Program Director, certifies eligibility of Program participants by determining nutritional risk for women who are pregnant I up to 6 months postpartum I breastfeeding up to 1year, as well as children from birth to age 5 years; provides and assures nutrition education to Program participants.

Functions as the competent professional authority for determination of program eligibility and certification: following assessment of individual anthropometric, biochemical, and dietary data, either certifies or denies participation in the Program on the basis of nutritional risk. Conducts any or all of the following procedures necessary for determining nutritional risk: measurement of length/height and weight, hemoglobin, completes required certification procedures in Focus (WIC software). Completes intake procedures for program applicants: interview applicants to obtain demographic information and determine income eligibility. Provides nutrition and health education in the areas of maternal and child health to WIC participants in accordance with Program guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned.

Schedule

This will be primarily for the Dallas County Clinic. Schedule is as follows:

Monday 8 AM to 5:30 PM Dallas County

Tuesday 8 AM to 5:30 PM Dallas County

Wednesday 8 AM to 5:30 PM River Plaza

Thursday 8 AM to 5:30 PM Dallas County

Friday 8 AM to 5:30 PM Dallas County

This position will travel to outreach clinics: Winterset and Clive Food Pantry.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

1.       Use accurate techniques for length/height, weight, hemoglobin

2.       Use universal precautions for exposure to blood or bodily fluids

3.       Complete health and diet questions in Focus as appropriate for each participant being certified

4.       Provide health and nutrition education appropriate to individual participant within guidelines

5.       Make and document formal and informal referrals when indicated or requested by client

6.       Implement department's Service Excellence standards

Qualifications 

• B.A./B.S. degree in foods and nutrition, dietetics, community nutrition, or closely related field OR RN current RN license recognized by the State of Iowa Board of Nursing
• If applicable, must maintain current Registered Nurse license. 
• Reliable transportation.
• Licensed or registered Dietitian preferred
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
