Actual starting pay will vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.

Eligible for an Annual Discretionary Cash Bonus Target: 12.5%

Eligible for an Annual Discretionary Restricted Stock Units Bonus Target: 12.5%

These discretionary target bonuses may be awarded semi-annually based upon your achievement of performance goals and targets.

About This Job

The VP, Portfolio Manager Lead is responsible for leading a team of Portfolio Managers and Analysts supporting a portfolio of middle market and sponsor-backed cash flow lending relationships. This role provides oversight of portfolio monitoring, credit quality, risk management, covenant compliance, and ongoing borrower relationship management while ensuring adherence to the Bank’s credit policies and regulatory requirements. The VP, Portfolio Manager Lead serves as a key partner to Originations, Credit Administration, Underwriting, Operations, and senior leadership to maintain a high-quality portfolio and support strategic growth initiatives. This description incorporates responsibilities commonly reflected in internal portfolio management leadership roles and cash flow credit oversight functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Portfolio Managers and Credit Analysts responsible for ongoing management of cash flow lending relationships
  • Oversee portfolio performance, credit quality, risk ratings, covenant compliance, and borrower financial performance
  • Review financial statements, compliance certificates, borrowing reports, and other borrower reporting to identify emerging risks and recommend corrective actions
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for problem credits, covenant breaches, and portfolio exceptions
  • Ensure timely completion of annual reviews, renewals, modifications, amendments, waivers, and periodic risk assessments
  • Partner with Relationship Managers, Originations, Underwriting, Credit Administration, and Legal teams to evaluate new opportunities and manage existing relationships
  • Monitor portfolio concentrations, exposure trends, industry risks, and early warning indicators
  • Review and approve credit memoranda, risk-rating recommendations, amendments, and portfolio management decisions within delegated authority
  • Establish portfolio reporting, key performance indicators, and management dashboards to track portfolio health and team performance
  • Participate in credit committee presentations, policy discussions, regulatory examinations, and internal audits
  • Drive consistency in underwriting standards, portfolio management practices, and risk management procedures across the team
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reporting accuracy, and portfolio oversight
  • Support strategic growth initiatives while maintaining disciplined credit risk management

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field
  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in commercial banking, leveraged finance, cash flow lending, portfolio management, or credit risk management
  • Minimum 3-5 years of leadership or team management experience.
  • Strong understanding of commercial credit analysis, financial statement analysis, cash flow modeling, leverage metrics, covenant structures, and risk grading methodologies
  • Experience managing sponsor-backed, middle market, leveraged finance, or cash flow lending portfolios
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate complex credit structures and identify emerging credit risks
  • Strong knowledge of commercial lending policies, regulatory requirements, and credit documentation
  • Proven ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders, and collaborate across multiple functions
  • Excellent verbal, written, analytical, and presentation skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and portfolio management systems
  • Completion of a formal credit training program is preferred
