ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization whose mission is to boldly engage the world’s greatest crises in partnership with the church. Today, organizational programming focuses on humanitarian and disaster response, community strengthening and resilience, and refugee & immigrant services and advocacy.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Volunteer Coordinator serves local churches and volunteers through volunteer and intern coordination. This individual works to empower the Church & local community to serve immigrants in the Triangle alongside World Relief.
The is a hybrid role- 4 days in office, 1 work from home.
 

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 
1. Volunteer Program Development:
• In conjunction with World Relief Durham program managers, identify and prioritize the ongoing needs for volunteers.
• Design and direct long-term and recurring volunteer opportunities and programs for individuals, groups, and interns. These will include traditional volunteer opportunities (Good Neighbor Teams and Friendship Partners), ongoing program needs (drivers, childcare workers, accompaniment volunteers, etc.), and single events
 • With supervisor, develop ongoing and annual metrics for each of the volunteer needs, and ensure that these metrics are met.
 
2. Volunteer Recruitment:
 • Develop and carry out a dynamic and active volunteer recruitment plan with local churches and organizations, at World Relief Durham events, on social media (as appropriate), and by following up with individuals who have expressed interest.
 • Speak at church and community activities, table at events to recruit volunteers, and meet with church and community leaders to communicate the opportunities for volunteering.
• Guide new volunteers through the volunteer application process and background checks with regular communication and record-keeping.
 • Maintain database and monitor tasks needed to be completed by candidates/volunteers, including online volunteer interest forms, applications, training completion, background checks, logging volunteer hours, and more.
• Develop and lead regular volunteer trainings, either virtually or in person, using courses that have been developed in-house or by World Relief home office.
 • Connect volunteers to appropriate volunteer opportunities
 • Provide ongoing coaching and support to volunteers throughout their volunteer experience
 • Collect volunteer quotes, photos, and stories to share in office communications
• Participate in World Relief Home Office volunteer mobilization and community engagement teams
• As needed, conduct written and in person driving tests for volunteers and interns who will be driving clients.
 
 3. Interns:
• In conjunction with WRD program managers, determine the internship needs for each program
• Serve as the initial point of contact in the recruitment and onboarding of interns with local universities and organizations
• Train, equip, and when appropriate, supervise interns
 
 4. Welcome Houses :
• Serve as the primary point of contact with churches and individuals that have made houses available for temporary housing.
• Resolve scheduling and interpersonal issues that arise.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mature and personal Christian faith
  • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
  • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
  • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Association of Evangelicals' For the Health of The Nation document
  • Valid drivers license, access to reliable vehicle and ability to pass MVR standards
  •  A winsome personality that prioritizes and enjoys reaching out and recruiting people 
  •  Ability to manage dozens of volunteer relationships simultaneously 
  •  Strong administration & organizational skills 
  •  IT skills in database entry and generating reports required 
  •  Experience in HR, logistics, or program coordination a plus
  • Ability to problem-solve, create and implement new programs 
  •  Strong writing and public speaking skills 
  •  Ability to work on a team; ability to work independently 
  •  Flexibility for evening and weekend events or trainings  
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  2+ years relevant work experience 
  •  Comfortable managing interpersonal conflict and communication challenges with professional customer service skills
