What you'll do:

As Model Validation Vice President at MUFG in London, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the integrity of the group’s risk management framework through rigorous independent validation of quantitative models. Your day-to-day activities will involve designing challenger models, conducting thorough reviews of frameworks and assumptions, testing numerical implementations, and preparing comprehensive reports for oversight committees. Success in this role requires not only technical proficiency but also strong interpersonal skills as you collaborate with colleagues across departments. You will be responsible for ensuring that all models meet regulatory standards while proactively identifying areas for improvement. • Design, model, and prototype challenger models independently to provide alternative perspectives on existing methodologies.
  • Perform comprehensive quantitative analysis and review of model frameworks, assumptions, input data, and results to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Test numerical implementations of models thoroughly while reviewing associated documentation for completeness and clarity.
  • Check compliance with governance requirements by evaluating processes against established standards and policies.

  • Ensure timely tracking of remediation actions following validation recommendations to maintain high standards of model quality.
  • Prepare detailed model risk reporting for presentation to Model Oversight Committees and the Board, supporting effective decision-making.
  • Collaborate closely with Risk Analytics teams and Front Office quants to facilitate knowledge sharing and support ongoing model enhancements.
  • Stay informed about the latest technical developments in financial mathematics, pricing methodologies, and risk modelling techniques.

You approach tasks methodically with keen attention to detail; your collaborative nature supports knowledge sharing across teams. These qualities position you as an invaluable contributor within MUFG’s inclusive environment.

  • Experience in quantitative modelling (development or validation) within counterparty credit risk or derivatives pricing models.
  • Experience specifically developing or validating xVA models within a financial institution or similar environment.
  • A postgraduate degree in a quantitative discipline such as statistics, mathematics, mathematical finance or econometrics.
  • Strong background in mathematics and probability theory applied to finance contexts.
  • Proficient programming skills in Python or R (or equivalent), enabling effective implementation of complex models.
  • Solid understanding of simulation techniques and numerical methods relevant to financial modelling.
  • Good knowledge of data science principles and statistical inference techniques applicable to risk assessment.
  • Awareness of current technical developments in financial mathematics, pricing strategies, and risk modelling approaches.
