Job Description:

The Utility Mechanic is responsible for executing tasks to fulfill the diverse need our growing campus environment to include, driver duties to fulfill the needs of FMS Transportation requests, skilled in the technique of fulfilling moving requests, light bulb maintenance, assist with grounds maintenance duties. 

Essential Job Functions:

A. Performs the duties of driving a Goucher College vehicle, to fulfill the requests by our campus community of the Facilities Management Services transportation department.

·      Independently maintains a level of knowledge regarding the bus/van trip he/she is driving.

·      Responsible for completing a vehicle inspection log on the assigned vehicle to ensure a safe and operational vehicle before every departure.  Inspections are turned in to the supervisor.

·      Responsible for the cleanliness of each vehicle they are assigned on a daily basis, including cleaning out all trash and debris after each use.

·      Follows all college procedures required to inspect and maintain the safety and performance of the vehicle they are assigned each trip.

As assigned, inspects designated area of campus buildings for lights that are out and replaces bulbs/lamps accordingly to make repair.

·      Inspects lamp and ballast to determine when the bulb/lamp needs replaced or if the ballast is deficient. 

·      Monitor each building location for bulb/lamp maintenance as scheduled.

Perform the duties of fulfilling diverse requests for disassembling, assembling, moving and transporting furniture and various types of office equipment to complete assigned work order. Furniture includes, but is not limited to tables, chairs, desks, beds, dressers, ward robes, boxes, lights, and various types of office equipment and furniture to complete assigned work orders.

·      Responsible for successfully moving office furniture and accessories (i.e. tables, chairs, desks, boxes) as assigned.

·      Responsible for the organization and timeliness of completing the work order.

·      Responsible for moving and transporting all items listed above in a safe manner.

·      Responsible for moving and transporting all items in a way to protect against the damage of the article being moved.

  B.   Perform the duties of assisting in the maintenance of the campus grounds including but not limited to trash clean up, removal of debris, limbs, leaves from the grounds, planting of flowers, trees and shrubs, weed removal out of beds, cleaning drains and keeping rain spouts of flat roofs free of debris, athletic field maintenance and snow removal as required. Other Duties as assigned.

C.    Must perform all duties in a safe manner, asking for assistance from another employee or supervisor when needed.

·         Required to complete work orders and associated paperwork i.e. (trip form, work orders, vehicle inspection forms etc.) and turn in daily to the work management office.

·         Regularly maintain the cleanliness of the vans and buses inside and outside as assigned.

·         Operate various equipment and power equipment including but not limited to weed eaters, power edgers, power mowers, sprayers, water wheel, field paint machine, snow blower, hand tools, ladders and related landscape equipment as required.

Education:

Required:  Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.:

Professional Experience:

Required: Approximately 1 year of experience where driving passengers was a primary responsibility.

Preferred: 1 year of experience moving furniture in a commercial setting.

 The incumbent must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a passenger endorsement within one year of hire.

Starting pay is $21.74 per hour.
