Role: Underwriting Controls Transformation Analyst (12 month FTC)

Location: London

Position: Full time, contract

To support the transformation and continuous improvement of MS Amlin's underwriting control environment by reviewing existing processes, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency and effectiveness, and helping prepare the function for future data, reporting and technology developments.

The role will focus on reducing manual activity, improving data quality, strengthening control reporting, enhancing management information and identifying opportunities to leverage analytics and technological-enabled solutions. The role holder will work closely with key stakeholders to challenge existing processes and develop practical solutions that improve the overall operation of the control framework.

In addition, the role holder will provide support to the Underwriting Controls team during peak reporting periods where required, helping maintain delivery of key control responsibilities whilst transformation initiatives are progressed.

Current Process Improvement and Control Optimisation

Review and improve existing underwriting control processes with a focus on efficiency, effectiveness and risk reduction.

Key responsibilities include:

• Reviewing existing processes and controls and identifying opportunities to streamline, simplify and enhance activities.
• Assessing current reporting, governance and oversight approaches and recommending improvements that increase efficiency and strengthen decision-making.
• Improving data quality and management information.
• Challenging existing ways of working and delivering practical improvements that reduce manual effort and operational risk.
• Supporting the design and implementation of enhanced controls that improve overall effectiveness.

Future Capability and Strategic Development

Support the evolution of the Underwriting Controls function through the development of more data-driven, scalable and insight-led approaches.

Key responsibilities include:

• Support the design, development and implementation of enhancements to the underwriting control framework arising from strategic initiatives and project work.
• Identifying opportunities to leverage data analytics and emerging technologies to improve control efficiency and effectiveness.
• Contributing to the development of future-state processes and controls that support long-term operational effectiveness.
• Supporting the delivery of change initiatives designed to strengthen the overall control environment.
• Develop and document sustainable operating procedures and governance arrangements to support new capabilities.
• Monitor and report on the effectiveness and benefits of implemented improvements.

Business as Usual Delivery and Support

Provide targeted analytical, reporting and governance support to the Underwriting Controls team during peak delivery periods, ensuring key control activities continue to be delivered effectively while transformation and improvement initiatives are progressed. This support will also help the role holder develop a practical understanding of current processes, enabling them to identify opportunities to streamline activity, improve reporting quality and reduce manual effort

Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting the production and distribution of MSA Underwriting Controls reporting to underwriting teams.
• Assisting with the review and investigation of underwriting exceptions, ensuring appropriate evidence and rationale is available to support control conclusions.
• Supporting the preparation of quarterly Underwriting Committee reporting.
• Supporting controlled updates to Underwriting Authorities where requested by the Underwriting Controls and Operations Lead, ensuring changes are accurately reflected and appropriately documented.

What you’ll need:

• Prior experience in an insurance or reinsurance environment is required. Experience operating within the Lloyd’s insurance market would be advantageous.
• Strong analytical capability, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, investigate root causes and translate findings into practical recommendations.
• Curious and improvement-focused mindset, with the ability to challenge existing processes and identify opportunities to improve control effectiveness and efficiency.
• Ability to use insight from control activity to support better decision-making, stronger governance and clearer management reporting.
• Comfortable exploring and applying new technologies, including AI tools, to improve reporting, analysis, documentation and process efficiency.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess information and recommend proportionate, practical solutions.
• Ability to engage with stakeholders across the business, should be happy dealing with senior stakeholders.
• Experience of process improvement, control enhancement or data-led reporting would be desirable.
