About Street Child Suisse:

The goal of Street Child Suisse is to create educational opportunities for the most marginalised children and communities in the world’s toughest places, where the need is greatest.

Street Child focuses on scalable, sustainable solutions that make a real difference to children. Evidence is the driver for learning and improvement, to create maximum impact in education programmes.

Street Child Suisse has been part of the global Street Child network since 2017. Together, the network works in more than 20 of the world’s lowest-income and most crisis-affected countries, including Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Afghanistan and Ukraine.

Profile:

Street Child Suisse is looking for an enthusiastic Treasurer who identifies with Street Child’s mission and wants to support the organisation in a practical, collaborative, and flexible way. This is a voluntary board role for someone who can oversee the organisation’s finances, keep the board well informed, and work closely with colleagues across the Street Child network.

Responsibilities:

You will be part of the Street Child Suisse board and oversee the organisation’s finances in close collaboration with our team within the Street Child global network. The role focuses on sound financial management, transparent reporting, and good governance.

  • Overseeing the financial administration of Street Child Suisse and the documentation of how funds are used.
  • Reviewing regular financial reports and presenting the financial position to the board.
  • Reviewing the annual accounts, including the balance sheet, general ledger, and other necessary documents.
  • Contributing actively to the board by giving strategic direction, setting targets, and evaluating performance against them.
  • Working closely with fellow board members and the wider Street Child network to coordinate activities and share relevant opportunities.
  • Ensuring that Street Child Suisse works transparently and complies with legal, tax, and statutory requirements.
  • Leading the annual legal and financial reporting process, including coordination with the external auditors, together with the board and relevant Street Child colleagues.

Requirements:

  • Experience in accounting and financial management, including annual accounts and documenting the use of funds.
  • Experience with boards, governance, or the NGO sector is an advantage, ideally including familiarity with Swiss non-profit financial and tax requirements.
  • Interest in international development, education, humanitarian work, and children’s rights.
  • Availability to join around 4 online board meetings per year, and one in-person workshop in Switzerland, plus an average of around 2 hours per month for finance tasks.
  • Comfortable communicating in English, with Swiss German or French as a useful additional asset.
  • Willingness to work closely with our team and the wider Street Child network to support shared priorities.
  • Living in Switzerland is required.

Our Offer:

  • A voluntary role, practical and flexible, in which you help change the lives of some of the world’s most marginalised children, so they can be safe, in school and learning.
  • The opportunity to work with committed people across Street Child Suisse and the wider Street Child network.
  • The chance to actively shape the financial development of a small but growing organisation.

Safeguarding: Street Child is committed to safeguarding the communities we serve, our partners, our volunteers, and our staff.

About Street Child

Street Child believes that every child deserves the chance to go to school and learn. Our projects focus on a combination of education, child protection and livelihood support to address the social, economic and structural issues that underpin today’s education crisis.

We partner with local organisations and communities to deliver our locally rooted programmes, using evidence to drive learning and the refinement and scale up of programmes to create maximum impact for the most children at the lowest cost. We pride ourselves on being willing to go to the world’s toughest places where others won’t, including remote, hard-to-reach areas and fragile, disaster-affected states across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

Since 2008 we have helped over 250,000 children to go to school and learn and supported over 25,000 families to set up businesses so they can afford the cost of educating their children.
