About This Opportunity

Supervises the field construction of a project, or works in partnership with a Sr Superintendent on a large, complex project, including organization, planning, and scheduling. Focus on achieving the project goals on time, within budget, and to the quality specified, while maintaining safety and job cleanliness. 

Rockford Construction has projects located throughout the Midwest and beyond. Superintendents are expected to travel and work at assigned project sites for the duration of each project. Assignments may require extended stays away from home, including overnight and multi-month travel commitments. Travel expenses and applicable allowances will be provided in accordance with company policy

Key Responsibilities

  • Foster an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
  • Primary liaison with owner/architects/engineers for the day-to-day construction activities of the project.
  • Accurately project construction activities and site logistic plan for the duration of the project for scheduling purposes.
  • Review and have a comprehensive understanding of all contract documentation including but not limited to owner contract obligations, project budget and buyout, trade contract obligations, etc.
  • Perform full review of contract documents (i.e. drawings, details of drawings, scopes of work, specifications, post-bid meeting minutes, bid clarifications, permits, etc.).
  • Conduct through construction document reviews and examine all documents for constructability and Quality Assurance, Quality Control. Bring all concerns to the attention of the appropriate design professionals for resolution.
  • Assemble and implement a project specific Quality control program, and ensure compliance to all required mockups, testing, inspections, and other quality control measures.
  • Verify all trade contractors have fully executed contracts with current Certificates of Insurance before commencing with work on site.
  • Equip project site with approved Rockford branding including site signage, per policy.
  • Develop and implement overall project work schedules identifying the critical path including expediting of scheduled critical path materials for their timely delivery to site.
  • Maintain a detailed Microsoft Project schedule from preliminary contract schedule including Critical Path and upload to project management software on weekly basis.
  • Oversee work among all trades to promote a coordinated project operation. Resolve local area problems, regarding procedures, precedence, design clarifications, adequate labor and equipment, and other appropriate matters.
  • Provide 3-week look-ahead for all owner and trade contractor progress meetings.
  • Monitor actual work to maintain compliance for the work plan.
  • Maintain communication with trade contractors and coordinate daily activities.
  • Manage and make decisions related to the performance of the work related to scheduling, delivery, logistics, quality control, and trade employee staffing levels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or years of equivalent experience
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience
  • Must be comfortable with heights
  • Certifications in First Aid/CPR required
  • Certification in Storm Water Management required
  • 30 hours in OSHA training required
  • Some travel may be required throughout the Midwest region and beyond
  • Knowledge of CSI format preferred
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, memos, blueprints, and floor plans
  • Proficient in using the Internet to research information, as well as MS Outlook, Project, Excel, and Word
  • Ability to provide comprehensive written correspondence and verbal communication with clients, trade contractors, municipalities, team members, etc.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other team members of the organization
  • Work with Senior Leadership to track and report job progress

Environmental Factors and Working Conditions

The work environment for this position is a typical office environment with occasional construction site visits. When in the office, the physical demands require the ability to sit for long periods of time. Intermittent movement, such as accessing centrally located office equipment, lifting of 35 lbs, bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing, may be necessary to perform the requirements of this position. Site visits may subject the individual to hazards commonly associated with construction. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to be worn as required on project sites and in the warehouse.
