At Fehr & Peers, our most successful consultants combine technical expertise with strong client relationships, business development, and project leadership. We're seeking an experienced transportation planning or engineering consultant with approximately 8–12 years of experience who is excited to help grow our presence in the South Sound while delivering exceptional work for our clients. This role will help grow our Tacoma office.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing project delivery with business development, has established relationships within the South Puget Sound and/or the Central Washington transportation markets, and is motivated to help expand our practice while mentoring others. The position follows a hybrid schedule, with an expectation of at least three days per week in our Tacoma office.

What You'll Do

  • Lead transportation planning and engineering projects from pursuit through successful delivery, serving as the primary point of contact for clients and project teams.
  • Manage and deliver a variety of transportation projects, which may include corridor studies, transportation impact analyses, multimodal plans, active transportation projects, campus and institutional planning, environmental review, traffic operations analyses, and transportation system planning.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with public agencies, private-sector clients, developers, institutions, and other partners throughout the region.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, contributing to client strategy, proposals, interviews, and long-term relationship development.
  • Collaborate with office and regional leadership to grow Fehr & Peers' presence and reputation in the local market.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor by understanding clients' goals and delivering practical, innovative transportation solutions.
  • Mentor and develop staff while fostering collaborative, high-performing project teams.
  • Contribute to the long-term success of the Tacoma office through leadership, collaboration, and practice growth.
  • Qualifications

  • Approximately 8–12 years of transportation planning or engineering consulting experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex transportation projects from proposal through delivery.
  • Experience developing client relationships and contributing to practice growth through business development and repeat work.
  • Established relationships and experience working with Washington State and local agencies, institutional clients, developers, and private-sector organizations, with strong knowledge of the South Puget Sound and/or Central Washington transportation market.
  • Strong communication, presentation, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • A collaborative leadership style with a passion for mentoring and developing staff.
  • Professional registration (PE or AICP, as appropriate) or the ability to obtain it if applicable.
  • At Fehr & Peers, you'll have the opportunity to shape the future of transportation in Washington while helping grow an established practice alongside a collaborative team. We empower our consultants to build lasting client relationships, pursue meaningful opportunities, mentor the next generation of professionals, and make a lasting impact on the communities we serve.
