The Manufacturing Trainer is responsible for managing and delivering structured on-the-job training for new and existing Manufacturing Team Members in a semiconductor manufacturing environment. The role ensures employees are trained, assessed, certified, and supported to work safely, consistently, and in line with site procedures, quality standards, cleanroom requirements, and production expectations. Working with Manufacturing leadership, Supervisors, Process Engineering, Quality, EHS, and other support functions, the Manufacturing Trainer supports onboarding, cross-training, recertification, versatility planning, time-to-contribution targets, and the continuous improvement of training materials and methods.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, deliver, and manage structured on-the-job training programmes for new hires, existing Manufacturing Team Members, and employees transferring between work centres.

  • Partner with Manufacturing Managers, Supervisors, Process Engineering, Quality, EHS, and other support teams to identify training needs, skill gaps, certification requirements, and cross-training priorities.

  • Develop and maintain role-based training plans, milestones, practical assessments, certification requirements, and time-to-contribution targets for assigned work centres.

  • Deliver hands-on training in semiconductor manufacturing operations, including standard work, cleanroom protocols, equipment operation, process discipline, documentation, quality, and safety requirements.

  • Assess trainee competence through observation, questioning, practical demonstration, and documented sign-off before employees are released to work independently.

  • Maintain accurate training records, certification status, recertification schedules, versatility matrices, contribution matrices, and training history using approved systems.

  • Prepare and update training materials, standard work references, job aids, checklists, assessment documents, and onboarding content to reflect current manufacturing processes.

  • Support new tool installs, process changes, expansion activities, and new product or work-centre introductions by coordinating required training before implementation.

  • Track and report training metrics, including training completion, certification progress, time to contribution, cross-training coverage, recertification compliance, and skills gaps.

  • Support audits, corrective actions, and retraining activities by providing training records and demonstrating effective control of training and certification requirements.

  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, continuous improvement, Lean thinking, and right-first-time execution across Manufacturing teams.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Experience in semiconductor, high-volume manufacturing, regulated manufacturing, or another technically controlled production environment.

  • Strong understanding of on-the-job training, adult learning principles, practical skills assessment, and competency-based sign-off.

  • Excellent communication, coaching, facilitation, and presentation skills, with the ability to adapt style to different learning needs.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to documentation accuracy, compliance, safety, and quality standards.

  • Ability to work effectively with Managers, Supervisors, Operators, Engineers, Quality, EHS, and other stakeholders while managing multiple training priorities.

Qualifications

  • Leaving Certificate or equivalent is required; technical, manufacturing, training, or engineering qualification is desirable.

  • Train-the-Trainer, coaching, instructional design, or equivalent training qualification is desirable.

Previous experience as a Manufacturing Team Member, Technician, Equipment Technician, Manufacturing Trainer, or dedicated trainer in a semiconductor or technical manufacturing environment is advantageous.
