Location: Palo Alto, CA
We are hiring a Technical Program Manager to cover two areas of operation in a single seat. Roughly half the role is release management across upcoming infotainment software releases, owning the metrics and the daily drumbeat that keep a release on schedule and escalating what needs a decision. The other half is hands-on technical program management for the cloud-gateway service on the vehicle software team, driving sprint execution and owning the roadmap and the interface agreements that connect the vehicle to the cloud.
This is a role for a TPM who is comfortable moving between executive-level reporting and day-to-day ticket-level execution in the same week. You will work directly with engineering managers, developers, cloud partners, middleware partners and the heads of PMO.
Responsibilities
Release management
- Define and report on metrics that highlight the health of upcoming software releases
- Drive closure and provide daily updates for open tickets that are on the critical path for upcoming software releases
- Escalate risks and decisions needed to the heads of PMO
Cloud technical program management
- Drive tactical sprint execution for the cloud-gateway service on the vehicle software team
- Work with the engineering manager and developers to ensure a steady flow of actionable tickets are groomed and ready for implementation
- Define and maintain a long-term roadmap for the cloud relevant integrations
- Work with cloud partners to finalize vehicle-cloud data contracts for all relevant integrations
- Work with middleware partners to finalize cloud-gateway interfaces with the rest of the vehicle
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
- 5+ years of technical program management on software products, with time spent on both release management and sprint-level execution
- Demonstrated ownership of a software release process: defining health metrics, tracking critical path items to closure, running daily status, and driving go/no-go decisions
- Experience running agile execution alongside an engineering manager, including backlog grooming and writing tickets that are genuinely actionable for developers
- Working knowledge of client-server and cloud integration patterns, with direct experience defining or governing data contracts and API interfaces between systems
- Experience coordinating across partner teams and external vendors to close interface definitions, not just track them
- Ability to escalate clearly and early to executive stakeholders, with the judgment to know which risks belong at that level
- Strong written communication, comfortable producing both a daily update and a long-term roadmap
Preferred Qualifications
- Automotive software experience, particularly infotainment, telematics, or connected vehicle services
- Familiarity with vehicle-to-cloud architectures: gateway services, message schemas, MQTT or gRPC, REST APIs, and data contract versioning
- Exposure to vehicle middleware and the interfaces between a gateway service and the rest of the vehicle software stack
- Experience with over-the-air update programs or connected features such as remote lock and unlock, vehicle status, or vehicle tracking
- Background working with a major cloud provider's IoT or device management services
- Familiarity with Automotive SPICE, functional safety, or cybersecurity requirements as they touch software release readiness
- Tooling: Jira, Confluence, and dashboard or reporting tools used for release health metrics
- Prior experience in a split or dual-scope TPM role, or scaling a part-time scope into a full program
Salary Range
- $140,000 - 155,000
- The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience
